Latest Manalink version patch?
by high5in » 20 Nov 2009, 22:41
Hey everyone! First time poster! Awesome job to everyone creating new cards, etc! Just wondering. Is there going to be another patch like 201? When was 201 created? Sometime in March 09? I see all of these update threads and assume that these are not all being put into another patch. Or am I incorrect? Want to know if I need to read through all of the update posts to download the latest card additions or if they will be (or are already) included in a patch?
Also seems to be a bit confusing as to what card sets are being added etc, and what is being eliminated etc, due to the card limit in the game.
Thanks!

Jatill's update is the cumulative patch. That is to say the most recent update was yesterday.

There's only 2 or 3 elements to consider as a more casual player.
1) card logic updates (and AI)
2) artwork
Jatill's updates are the new cards and AI. (and may contain work by other developers.) The artwork updates are made after Jatill makes the cards, which makes sense because you don't want art for cards that aren't going to be programmed. So you update from jatills posts, and check the art thread for updates or make your own.
The possible 3rd element to consider is that you need the same version/patch/update as your opponent to play online.
I am still new here however. Hopefully I said nothing incorrect. Just trying to get you running asap.

Thanks for the update. I'm an old school player. Maybe Mirage was the last set that I actually collected. So I'm not up on any new rules and such. But I've played this game for some time. Usually just the sealed deck tourney to get a little fix. Was happy to get the Manalink updates some time ago as playing with the same cards can get stale after awhile. Starting to get a little stale again so I checked back and noticed all of the update posts.
Would like to see a list of changes made for the latest patch then. Is there one?

You can check the wiki for patch update or look for patch thread (usually there is a date on top of them) at the 1st post)

Thanks. I'm trying to update to the latest patch now but now the app is not starting. Getting "The file Manalinkeh.dll can not start. Please check the file yada yada yada." Any ideas? If I just run Deck.exe I can see all of the new cards. In case this matters I'm actually running it on an old Win98 machine.

Yea, I think it matters. It seems that Mok's original Manalink 2.0 update is the last one to support Windows 98. I've never been able to get any of the later updates to run on Win98 or Win2K. In fact, I'm about to try loading WinXP on a PII 266Mhz just to be able to play a few hands on break at work. ^_^
If I'm incorrect and anyone has been able to get these to work on Win98 or Win2K, please let us know.
