master card list?

Postby joemuz » 12 Oct 2009, 23:27

hi, new user here. first off, i just wanted to thank everyone who was involved in creating this. i bought the original microprose games back when they came out and needless to say, like many of you, i was addicted. after the gameplay got stagnant because of the limited amount of cards, i remember searching for something like this in vain, only to find many people who were looking for the same thing. as this was back in 2000/2001, no such "expansion" such as this existed and i remember wishing every day that some programmers could create something like this. well eventually i forgot about it but i was bored and just took a shot in the dark looking for something like this and what do you know!! my prayers have been answered! so again, thank you all who had a hand in making this possible!

now my question has to do with the .CSV files. back when i played the original games (SOTA, DOTP), like many of you, i remember editing the CSV files and seeing info for cards not included in the game. i also remember they even had artwork for these cards and i could see them in the deckbuilder if i manually edited a .dck file and typed the corresponding number in. however, they were not playable. i think i read somewhere that microprose was planning future expansions with these cards. here are some examples of unplayable cards listed in MASTER.CSV:

307 City Of Shadows
308 Coal Golem
309 Dance Of Many
310 Deep Water

my question is, should these cards be playable now? i carefully followed directions from salbei.spacequadrat.de and i believe i have the latest version installed. i do have a ton of new cards which are definitely cool but i was just wondering if these cards originally listed in the csv files from the original games have been included or intentionally left out to include more of the recent cards... i did see some cards that were originally listed in the CSV files but unplayable in the original games that are now playable such as the multicolored 7/7 dragons from legends set.

in fact, after looking over the lists, i see that these cards are listed in the .CSV files but (if my memory serves correctly) were not playable in the original games. i also do not see them in the deckbuilder in manalink 2.0 and my question is essentially asking if they should be or not:

+ A/B/U: 0000 - 0291
+ most of the listed cards are playable. i didn't check all of them as there was a lot.
+ 0120 Illusionary Mask
+ (more?)

+ The Dark: 0292 - 0390 & 0932 - 0951
+ 119 cards listed. 80 (79)* are playable. 39 (40)* unplayable. a few unplayable examples:

+ 0307 City Of Shadows
+ 0308 Coal Golem
+ 0309 Dance Of Many
+ 0310 Deep Water

+ 0319 Fire And Brimstone
+ 0351 Preacher
+ 0352 Psychic Allergy
+ 0933 Electric Eel
+ 0934 Festival

+ Arabian Knights: 0391 - 0465, 0930, 0931
+ 77 cards listed. 74 are playable. 3 unplayable.
+ 0402 City In A Bottle
+ 0441 Metamorphosis
+ 0457 Shahrazad

+ Antiquities: 0446 - 0550
+ 85 cards listed. 82 (83)* playable. 3 (2)* unplayable.
+ 0479 Bronze Tablet*
+ 0499 Golgothian Sylex
+ 0517 Power Artifact

*Bronze Tablet is actually playable. in the .CSV, it is labeled as Antiquities, but in the game, it is under Dark. off the top of my head, i'm not sure which set it belongs to so if we consider it an Antiquity, the Dark should break down 119 listed, 79 playable, 40 unplayable and Antiquities should break down 85 listed, 83 playable, 2 unplayable

+ Legends: 0551 - 0859, 952
+ 310 cards listed. 194 playable. 116 unplayable.
+ i know that a lot of cards that were unplayable in the original games are now playable with manalink 2.0. but there are still a lot listed in the .CSV files that aren't. examples:

+ 0562 All Hallow's Eve
+ 0566 Anti-Magic Aura
+ 0632 Falling Star
+ 0633 Feint
+ 0639 Floral Spuzzem
+ 0644 Gabriel Angelfire
+ 0651 Glyph of Delusion
+ 0652 Glyph of Destruction
+ 0653 Glyph of Doom
+ 0654 Glyph of Life
+ 0655 Glyph of Reincarnation
+ 0666 Hazezon Tamar
+ 0668 Heaven's Gate
+ 0693 Juxtapose
+ 0684 Infinite Authority
+ 0732 Nether Void
+ 0734 North Star
+ 0735 Nova Pentacle
+ 0762 Rasputin Dreamweaver
+ 0792 Spectral Cloak
+ 0800 Subdue
+ 0823 Transmutation
+ 0838 Voodoo Doll
+ 0849 Wall Of Vapor
+ etc.

Astral: 0860 - 0884, 0893 - 0898
0860 - 0871 & 0894 - 0898 are in the game. i'm guessing 0872 - 0884 & 0893 were new astral cards that microprose were going to make for the next expansion..

Token: 0885 - 0892
Blank: 0899 - 0929 & 0954 - 0959 & 0964 - 0997
0953, 0960 - 0963 appear to be special/joke cards

sorry about the looong rambling OCD post. again, my question is basically asking if the cards in the .CSV files that were unplayable in the original games (a few A/B/U, 40 Dark, 3 AK, 2 AN, 116 Legends) should show up (and be playable) in manalink 2.0. installation was a little complicated for me as there were so many updates and patches and different files to install and overwrite that i wanted to make sure i have it installed correctly and have all the cards possible! thanks!

also is there like maybe a handy list of all available cards that are currently playable in the latest version of manalink? (as that would also answer my question) maybe a file included in the installation that i missed? i looked in the readme but it just said that 1000+ new cards were added. it'd be really nice if someone had a master list of all cards in the game currently. again thanks everyone for taking their time to create such a wonderful product!!

Well, there are 2 ways to see the master list. Either use the deckbuilder and just scroll through the cards, or look at manalink.csv. Anything with a 'coded card' of '1' is in the game.

So these cards were only specified in csv files, but not yet implemented, so they couldn't be used in decks in original game (or Manalink 2.0)?

right.. they were specified in the csv files and artwork for them actually exists as well... a quick way to see this is to manually edit a deck file in notepad and for example type in at the bottom under the last card:

".762________1___________________Rasputin Dreamweaver" (without the quotes and spaces instead of underscores)

or any other card you want to see. you can find a cards ID in the csv files. when you edit the deck in deck editor now, you will see the card. (provided it hasn't been replaced. for example illusionary mask [0120] has been replaced with Iona, Shield of Emeria) however you will not be able to use it as the card was never coded by microprose. it will be replaced with a basic land if you try to use it in a duel. back when the original games came out, i heard the reason they did this was that they were preparing to add these cards in future expansions and giving sort of a preview i guess. i remember it used to kill me because when i first saw all these cards in master.csv, i thought there was some way to unlock them! but to my dismay, trying what i described above allowed me to just see the card, not use it. it was like they were teasing me! i wished and wished that somehow some way someone would find a way to implement these "ghost cards" as well as add new ones... of course jatill has done exactly that!! thanks jatill!!!

Would there be anyway to get a card list to be included with the masterbases available here for MWS. For making the various decks with the challengs it would be nice to be able to do more detailed searches. Like to be able to instantly sort out just the cards with defender and the like.
