Improving the deckbuilder: cheating the AI?
by 0rion79 » 13 Jan 2010, 10:18
Hello, until now you have clarified that it is only possible to change the buttons in the deck builder, but not to add any of them.
But actually I was thinking that we have some partially unused "slots" too.
I mean, as far as I remember, Mok was already preparing new buttons for Fallen Empires too, while some reference codes for some expansion sets are virtually unused. For example, the Astral Set includes different IDs for promo and Astral cards.
So, is it possible to duplicate the splitting effect for Basic set into Unlimited, Revised, 4th and 5th edition to other buttons? Because in this way we could increase filters for a faster cards browsing that would make things more clear and ordinated.
Also, I would like to know if it is possible to empower the filer by ability option.

Not sure. I'm not planning on making any other changes to the deck builder. I'd rather see a new deck builder built than trying to mess with the current one any more.

I'm asking so because I've heared that the guy that has made that attempt to create a new deck builder has disappeared.
Also, the original deckbuilder is made very well by an ergonomic point of view. Browsing among cards is very easy and comfortable not only because it can divide cards using good filters but also because the lower horizontal bar with the card art joint with the bigger preview with text in the top-left corner really are perfect for deckbuilding. What it misses are updated filters and more buttons, but trust me as psychologist when I tell that Microprose did something good. The only bad side of it is that we can't update it.
If this is true, I strongly reccomend to to something similar to the original style, also because it would be a non-sense to create something different from the actual one, because all of us went used to it and any change in buttons location or shape would break the routines that we have learned so well. In most of the cases, in fact, we don't even have to think about which actions we are doing to browse among cards, but we are just thinking about the card and its effect and this is the best hint that the actual design is very good.
Hope you'll understand me, it is not easy to talk about scientific matters using a foreign language. bye!
