Uninstalling and reinstalling screwed up my text / fonts.
by Arphahat » 19 May 2010, 04:39
Should have left well enough alone, but I was trying to figure out why some of the cards didn't seem to work. It occurred to me that I had installed in the Program Files directory and that it might be trying to write things there. I moved all the files into a C:\Games\MagicTG directory and ran again. Seemed to work OK, but the cards weren't working still, so I uninstalled and reinstalled. That is when I noticed that all the text disappeared.
The character creation, the duel and the Shandalar screens all have all the text missing, but it was there before I started messing around. Any help would be appreciated.
Edit: So, copying the files back to the Program Files\MagicTG dir seems to fix the issue. I can even run it from C:\Games\MagicTG now. Must be hardcoded to look for certain fonts in the Program Files location, I guess.

It's not hardcoded, it's just that the 1st time you run it, the game write some infos into the window registry such as game preferences as well as the font registering, of course if you move the folder on the go it won't be able to run it properly, you need to run the regedit file again to register the folder to its new location (or edit manually into the registry the new parameters).
I prefer to install the game into the root disk like C:\Magic, it's much safer than program files which can mess up with weird directory name (remember, this game is still supposed to run on DOS mode)
