Just installed MTG 2010 edition.. trying to play online
by fizzlepop » 26 Jun 2012, 04:20
Hey guys,
I haven't played this in years, so I was excited to see a new, updated version and wanted to play it with another opponent online like I was able to in the past (remotely, non-LAN).
I downloaded the Magic the Gathering 2009 Edition (Updated March 2010) and installed it. Then I ran the MagicTG_2009_to_2011_Patch.exe. And then I followed the instructions in the MTG 2010 Multiplayer.zip file, extracting the .reg files in the Program Files\MagicTG\ directory, running the magic.reg and then the no-serial.reg file and then regedit Manalink to "on." Also added the Magic Launcher.exe to the DEP.
Loaded up the game with the MTGLauncher.exe and was able to connect to Manalink.
Repeated the steps above for the remote computer and that's where the problems started. We both tried to host and join and nothing worked. On her end, when trying to join, nothing happens. On my end when I try to join, I get the E009 error where it can't establish a directplay session. I disabled my Avast anti-virus and had her disable hers as well. Still nothing.
I'm assuming you guys are all able to play online successfully? If so, can you give me a FAQ of how to install start to finish? I'm running a Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit OS.
Do I need to start over and re-download and intall all new files? I think I only have Manalink 2.01 or whichever came with the files I listed above.
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately this version is outdated and the latest version used is this version
You need also to install the Visual C++ Libraries
There is a multiplayer tutorial for Manalink 3.0 here
However, this version has many issue with cards and they will break network game.
