Failed to start.

Postby Stroggoii » 31 May 2012, 07:48

Starting with the April patch I haven't been able to start the game at all. I have deleted and downloaded again a couple of times but I just don't get anything, the same message "This application has failed to initialize properly.(00xc0000142)". Forcing me to close the window.

I've even run a System File Checker Scan and came out with no annomalies, but still can't start the game.

What is your computer spec and OS?
Do you run in admin mode?
What files are you downloading and from where are you extracting/playing them?
Did you download the visual studio compatibility patch?
Did you set Magic.exe to run with disabled theme?

I have a Hp pavillion with phenom II, 4gb ram, running windows 7 home premium.
I download the patches as they come, extract into a folder and run the exe.

I think I have the visual studio compatibility patch, but don't know how to set Magic.exe to run with disabled theme.

Right clic on magic.exe>run as admin?
Disable firewall and antivirus or add it to white list?
Check for viruses and trojan flame? :-P

Well, google say it might be related to either:
- memory issue
- hard disk issue
- printer issue

Do you have the same error anywhere else (other softwares)?
Did you do a memory test and hard drive test other than System File Checker Scan? (with Memtest86 and chkdsk /F) Also by unpluging any usb/printer port device?

It's only affecting this game, notthing else is having issues. I don't have a printer but I don't think it may be a memory issue, I mean, I can do 3D modeling and high-resolution digital painting in this laptop without it being weighted down at all.

Can you try to install several versions of ML from CirothUngol mediafire folder to separate folder at different area? (like Avacyn, 2.0 and 1.32)

I tried installing old versions and it just doesn't work at all anymore. I'm afraid I may not be able to play again.

Did you try the software provided in the mediafire folder to run it under OS emulation?

-The mentioned error message happens if you try to open magic using the magic.exe in magic updater file for instance, if you choose the magic.exe in main magic folder should be fine.Is it possible that you set it to open from the magic updater file?not likely but...

-Did you install-changed anything in your pc that might be interfering?Maybe uninstall that program?

-Did you try the windows restore at earlier point to a date before your problem if that's safe for you?

I don't know what happened but I tried downloading and installing CirothUngol's version again and it has finally worked.

Notthing got updated or changed since the last time I tried, I just can't see the logic in what happened but at least it's working now, thanks for your help folks.

I have just discovered this site, and tried Manalink 3.0. I bought the original game and SoTA when they were new, and I was excited at the prospect of being able to play the game with tons of new cards. And...

I get the same GDI+ error. Bummer.
Already tried everything suggested in this thread.
System info:
Windows XPsp2, 1GB RAM. Needless to say, everything else is working fine.

(Just to clarify: the version I downloaded was the "full" 2-part arj from Ciroth Ungol's mediafire folder.)
