ok, i downloaded the mok2.0 files, and im running on vista. i play the shandalar game, and there is no option to change my face/ect. and then when i start to play the game, i can damage the enemy, but when it damages me, the game crashes everytime. i downloaded from a link in a wiki, about adding certain features and new cards. when i install that, the game doesnt start.
also i did download from a torrent, another version of this game. its made my mok666, and it has a file called "fix for manalink". the magic.exe is version 2.0alpha. no one has told me, what this is at all. but it does work, i also tried the new features/cards on this version, and it crashes. if i knew how to use megaupload, id send a link for it so you could see for yourselves what version or whatever it is. ok one more thing,,, about the mok2.0 files, do i have to have the original game, then install them over it? would that work?

sorry for the late reply. its 2am here
looks like you´ve messed up the Home of the Underdogs installation.
first question : after you´ve downloaded the HOTU version(magicg.zip) and extraced the folder did you run "magic.part1" ?
second question: after this did you use "setup" in the new folder ?
Thanks for pointing out i have to add this to the guide

Hey, I am getting the exact same problem. I had an install of the game working properly I downloaded from another site. When I found this site and your install instructions I started from scratch and did a clean install per your instructions.
However, I still can't play the game. I get the same warning message saying "Couldn't Initialize Card Drawing"
Is there any solution for this or am I relegated to sticking with 1.32?

Copy the dualart folder to your dualart folder. If you prefer the original art, you're done. If you want the new art, copy the dualartnew folder to your dualart folder also. Either way, you'll need to choose one, or you'll have no art.
so there are 2 different "designs". the classic one and the updated one.
here is a screenshot of the updated design -> http://salbei.spacequadrat.de/pics/new.png

I did as the above post stated, but I still get the same "Can't initialize Card Drawing" error. Any other ideas?

read carefully. I´m refering to the DuelArt folder .(the background images , playmats etc)
not the CardArt folder (plain artwork on the cards).
i´m very sure that a upatched DuelArt folder causes the "couldn´t initialize card" error.
---
since it is still not working i suppose you start from scratch:
Try this basic version of the game this time and see if that works. It is more than twice the size download wise though.
hope this will work for you.

you will still have to add CardArtNew,DuelArtNew and the recent patch + reboot.MOK'S MANALINK 2.0 VERSION
We recommend that most people, and especially new users, start with the original Mok's version 2.0. It is pre-patched and ready to go. All the other files here are for archival purposes. Unless you're an expert at using old systems and have some specific reason for doing otherwise, USE THIS VERSION:
Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part1.rar (92.77 MB)
http://www.mediafire.com/?dnguzumjmnm
Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part2.rar (91.76 MB)
http://www.mediafire.com/?jzmoel4hjam
hope this will work for you.

Just followed the instructions you gave and it worked like a charm. There must be something wrong with the HOTU version that makes it have that error, but the MOK version works great.
Thanks a bunch man, your the greatest!

I am new and I am kinda confused.. The first pages says that I dont need to download the original game, i just use those 2 manalink rar files, but then this link http://salbei.spacequadrat.de/htdocs/ma ... l#ml2guide says that I do need the original game downloaded and installed first..Magic: The Gathering Game and Manalink Patches

you need that version as the basics , that is what i mean.
you cannot play the "addon" manalink without the basic game.
mok´s manalink includes the basic thing+addons - all at once , ready to be patched.
download + install the files from the link you´ve posted.
(make sure everything is correct and start the game before doing any further steps).
Moks Manalink is the basic you need ,
compatability manager is fixing crashes (game was made for win95),
Jatills patch adds new stuff to that,
artwork+duelart giving you the missing artwork for the cards jatill created , duelart will cause a crash if it is unpatched , so you´ll need that aswell.

ok so these two links are all i need?
Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part1.rar (92.77 MB)
and
Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part2.rar (91.76 MB)
?
I downloaded them, and tried unzipping them, that's what i assumed "unpacking" meant (if thats wrong let me know). However, I first unzipped the "Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part1.rar"(with 7-zip) that went fine. Then when I went to unzip "Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part2.rar" in the same folder at part 1, it came up with "are you sure you want to overwrite this file, it seemed part 2 had a whole bunch of duplicates(am i suppose to unzip them in two different folders?). I was unzipping them both in a folder i made magic on the C: drive. like this "http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/Installation" installation guide recommended.
So please tell me what I am doing wrong, because when I click "yes to all" for the part 2 over writing some of part 1's files then at the end there was some type of error, like file extension missing or something like that.
So where am I going wrong?
