ok Huggy, thanx for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if indirectly it was my fault!

Any news from your friend Hip?

""SamuelAugust, downloading a different version won't help. After you uninstall, I think you have to go into the registry and remove any remaining Microprose entries. If you're not comfortable with regedit we can come up with some clean registry files for you.""

I went into regedit and cleaned up all microprose entries. I'm going to try to reinstall it now.

BW, I haven't heard from Hip, I'll contact him.

Samuel, that's weird. Did you install the manalink patch? Do you have Vista or XP?

Ok.

Let him know that I completed testing the last build and for the most part, all went well from install, through a complete campaign in Shandalar.

No matter what I do this game will not work...Ether it won't play, There is no text, You can't buy or sell cards at all, When you sell a card the game crashes, you can't add cards to your deck, When you CAN remove a card from your deck it disappears. I've absolutly no luck with this game.
I was able to find a copy of "Duel" on ebay for 30 so I nabbed it, hopefully with the actual game disk it will work.

Hey guys, big problem here:

Magic the gathering loads fine - the entire is visible and all submenus function correctly.

Shandalar - loads, but no text is visible - after a moment the screen fades to black. rapid clicking through menus works to get to the actual world screen (of the game) but the game is too
skewed to even see an actual image

I've downloaded many versions of the game to no avail. I've tried fixes and they dont seem to fix anything- i cant find the microprose reg. files to delete so i can start a fresh install

dear internet god - help me.

Ok, I did install in this order:
DotP
Manalink
Act Fix
SotA
This seems to run well on XP Sp3, but I am wondering, if this is the right order.

Is it known to run with wine on GNU/Linux (if not, I would like to save compiling time on Gentoo :)) or something else on Mac OS? I am not so happy about switching Pcs all the time. :)

From the wiki it seems you don't need to install and shouldn't SotA after DotP
(DotP)This was an upgraded version of the original game released on January 14, 1998. Owners of the original game were eligible for a mail-in rebate. It included the original game, all of the upgrades included in Spells of the Ancients, and 80 new cards from the expansion sets Legends and The Dark.

I know, but Bog Wraith insists that SotA also upgrades DotP, and he's the expert. We've had many discussions on the subject, and I showed him that same quote.. :)
If DotP (without SotA) includes Juzam Djinn then I need to know that, I haven't had time to check.

Huggy, I think you forgot that I had told you that the distro that has been available to folks via either the Underdogs version or the one that had been at our old forum and around the internet as the abandonware version for years now included everything and thus SoTA was NOT needed. My CD install of DoTP does not contain Juzam and was added only when I installed the SoTA CD. That required me to first verify my ownership of the DoTP CD by inserting it first before being allowed to continue with the SoTA install.

I guess you got mixed up with my error that I had thought that SoTA came out after DoTP, (when in fact it had come out before it by a few months), which I had PM'd you about and admitted my mistake on that count. The Juzam reference was to note that that card originally was available from the SoTA CD.

Since very few people have the original CD's, I think we should forget about referencing them as such and stop confusing the issue and stick with helping folks based on the one that is readily available here or, the one that Hip is using in the all in one CD project.

If I've added to the confusion by things I've referenced in past postings, I apologize as this was not my intention.
