Guide : setting up the Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.5

Ok i have the "new" cards loaded into the game but the pictures for them are not showing up any clues why? i also still dont know how to install the ACT fix patch.

The new cards don't show up in Shandalar. If you don't see them in the other modes then you didn't install the patch properly.

To use the ACT fix:

First, download and install the Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.5
(Download Application Compatibility Toolkit.msi 11.0 MB)

Then download MtG_-_DotP.sdb.

Run the Compatibility Administrator
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5\Compatibility Administrator\Compatadmin.exe"


It will look like this:


Go to File/Open and select MtG_-_DotP.sdb. It will open a new Custom Database.


Then go to File and click Install. You should see this:


Then this:

Notice DotP is now in the Installed Databases.

DotP should also be listed under Add or Remove Programs in your Control Panel.

Yeah, I had no real idea what to do with the fix thing myself. I got as far as downloading the compatability thing and opening the file, but got confused from there and never went under file to click install.

Ok thank you the patch is in and working. I can buy cards now in shandalar. but i sstill have one problem, I get the cards in the deck build now but they have no pictures any thoughts about why this is?

Did you download the CardArtNew(versionnumber) zip file, extract the folder, and replace your old CardArtNew folder with it?

Edit: Dang, 3 minutes too slow. I was double checking what file it was before I hit post and someone beat me to it.

When I open compatibility tools it tells me I do not have administrative privelages and therefore doesn't let me install the file... but my account is an administrator account in Vista... I just checked. Any ideas?

Disregard my previous post. After poking around I figured it out. If anyone else has this issue-- you go to the program, right click it, select properties, go to the compatibility tab, and select run this program as an administrator from the security or privelages section at the bottom of the window.

I have tried to get the MtG_-_DotP.sdb to work but when I try to open it up in Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6 (I can not get Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.5 anywhere) it gives me an error that says "please use the compatibility administrator 64-bit tool to open 64-bit compatibility databases". Now when I researched this error I found that Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 5.6 comes with Compatibility Administrator 32 and 64-bit, but it only installs Compatibility Administrator 32-bit. Maybe because I only have a 32-bit machine, not sure. If there is another version of MtG_-_DotP.sdb that is 32-bit I think that would help, or a Compatibility Administrator that is 64-bit that i can install maybe that would help. I also installed ACT 2.0 that was on my WinXP cd but it does not have a "install" button in the "file" drop down. Any information on this would me greatly appreciated.

Yep, but it's still a valid one, except for the link. That's why I posted the newer one to get the older setup,lol.

**At least we aren't affiliated with Sony,eh? All there MTG and other games are still down. Geez, I should have known not to go with anything Sony since I shopped everywhere online to decide whether to get a PS3 or Xbox 360. I'd gotten Playstation since it's beginning, but they've really dropped the ball over the years, so I picked the Xbox 360.

Unable to apply the MtG_-_DotP.sdb fix on my Windows 7 64-bit machine. It tells me that the Compatibility Administrator (32-Bit) only supports 32-bit .sdb files and that I should use the 64-bit version. When I do, it tells me to use the 32-bit version... Anyone have any idea what to about this?

I'm a total newb, but is this because the sdb was meant for 16 to 32 bit compatibility so it will never work on a 64-bit machine?

Woohoo! I figured it out. I just used the sdbinst.exe that comes with windows. I dropped the .sdb dile onto an sdbinst.exe shortcut and it installed it. doesn't give you any messages or anything, but it works!

I did all this by manually putting the fix on the exe, although it still doesn't work and the text is still invisible
