Windows 10 Stopping Magic from opening

First I'd like to thank everyone for the work that they've done/are doing with Manalink 3.0 and in the game in general.

Okay I have two pc's one is windows 10 and the other is my old Win 7 laptop. Each computer has had the game installed and I just downloaded the Full manalink3.0 installation for NEW USERS-fate reforged from Aswan jaguar. On my Windows 7 pc everything that I've tested so far (duels mode) works fine. On Windows 10 however, it won't load the game. I have tried admin mode on and off, I have it off in dep off for Magic and then also tried for manalink to see if that made a difference. I also added magic.exe to my firewall and antivirus. I do have the event error report from Windows 10, but I got an error saying "Your post looks too spamy for a new user, please remove off-site URLs." there are no url's in the error log though :lol:

. Thank you to anyone who might be able to help me figure this out.

Also while yes I do have two laptops, Windows 10 is my main streaming laptop and I would like to be able to stream this game and help give it some extra outreach.

Interesting how it stops Manalink 3 but not the previous ones, oh well, looks like It's VMWare Player time. Thank you.

Hey guys!

I was having exactly the same problem until today's Windows Update.

It seems to have fixed the problem the last update was giving manalink.

I right-clicked, hit run as admin, and the game fired up like old times!

just wanted to let everyone know!

I updated my Win10 just now, and yes there is an update for windows defender. Now, it seems I have the definition "1.267.1832.0" . I hit run as administrator and manalink.exe does not work. I installed the clean version of Aswan's (Full manalink3.0 installation for NEW USERS-fate reforged).

Anything you have done besides those ?

I don't believe I did anything other than update Windows.
I am running Manalink 2016/08/27: Eldritch Moon v2, and has cards up to Conspiracy I believe. I know this version was working properly prior to Windows breaking it.

The Windows Update that helped me out was called
"Feature Update to Windows 10, version 1803"

I also have the def update you called out, but that's just for the Windows Defender Antivirus, so I think that's something different.

Windows Defender or any other antivirus will very likely stop Manalink, and almost certainly modern Shandalar, from running if you don't whitelist them; the way they interface with the original MicroProse executables is indistinguishable from the way early viruses worked.

There should be no need to run either as an administrator, unless you installed them into a privileged directory like Program Files. That said, I don't have a Windows 10 installation handy to test with, and no desire for one.

Magic started up on my PC until I received the Fall 2017 Creators Update to Windows 10. After that I could not get it to start at all. I recently received the Spring Creators Update. Just for grins, after the installation of the update, I decided to try Magic. It worked! Go figure.

I managed to check in windows 10 the Manalink 2016/08/27: Eldritch Moon v2 (which has Korath's fix) and is again playable in the windows 10 versions that wasn't for few last months. Now after "Feature Update to Windows 10, version 1803" it loads. It does make a lot of time to load however (longer than my very,very old pc does) it seems that it is checked a lot before let loaded. I also have the impression as someone else mentioned that it crashes more often - the test is very limited though.

Unfortunately the (Full manalink3.0 installation for NEW USERS-fate reforged) which doesn't have (Korath's fix) is still not playable for windows 10 users that wasn't before even after "Feature Update to Windows 10, version 1803".

Now it should work perfectly. It is not about Windows 10 because this operating system version is finalized to the smallest details. So I think that the problem was about the version of the game. Many apps and games were not optimised for Windows 10, so every of it had it's own issues. I had problems with some of the tools that I have been working with due to switching to Win 10, then I moved back to 7th version and waited until it was going to appear an automatic driver updater, then I will install 10th version again.

I still have a couple of Windows 7 PCs that are fully updated and havent had any issues with the connector. They are still getting nightly backups and Ive accessed the server from each.

Can you log into the server with Remote Desktop Connection RDP session?

Hi All,
I'm experiencing the magic.exe launching but never opens the app. I have attached the event log file from Windows 11.
I installed the latest base build: 2020 and applied the CardArtManalink images as well as the patch from this page: viewtopic.php?f=85&t=29422, I was only able to launch the Deck.exe, it was nice to see Nicol Bolas in the deck builder, I was able to build a Dragons deck, but it's a shame I can't play it.

I was able to run the Magic The Gathering 2010 iso on Windows 11, I do have a question, I see Nicol Bolas image: 0733.jpg in the CardArtNew folder, how do I make him appear in the Deckbuilder?

Simple user here, but are you sure it's not blocked by Windows Defender since you didn't mention looking into it ?

I forgot to mentioned that I added the exes: Deck, DeckEditor, Magic and Shandalar to the Exclusions section for Defender and to the Firewall.

This isn't the latest patch the latest patch is always the first or second topic in patches forum: viewtopic.php?f=85&t=31457,
go get it and let us know if you still have issues.
