Hey all, new here!
by kingart » 31 May 2010, 01:02
Hey guys, I am a newbie here and I had a question. I found this site this afternoon after installing MTG: Duel of the planeswalkers onto my pc, and was looking for a manalink upgrade. This looks like an AWESOME site, but I am super confused as to how to proceed. Please forgive if this sounds silly, but there really is a dearth of information to get thru. Is there a newbie/getting started page for what I need to do to fully enjoy your site? How about other programs I might need? I would enjoy the opportunity to duel with other online players, if I could just figure out how to get started. Thanks for your help! Looking forward to hearing from you guys and gaming with others soon!

The wiki should have everything you need but you can start with this section :
http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/Installation

I'm also confused in the face of all this information. I think a little gets lost in translation between dev's and players.
maybe the Wiki should Include layman's terms, such as: This is where you'll find the latest cards(rise of the el-drazi).
Don't get me wrong, it does a fine job of guiding a noobie such as myself into getting the game installed and running, but i'm constantly wondering "where is the newest card download? does this include Rise of the eldrazi, Worldwake...and Zendikar? Am i installing this patch directly into my D:\MTG folder? What does this switcher do in the Manalink UI? Whats the difference between running Magic.exe and Magic constructed from the MagicLimited.exe. Is running MagicCustom.exe supposed to do nothing?" but answers are hard to find.
What I end up doing is usually the wrong thing and people end up with headaches. Can't even figure out how to safely uninstall this game so I can re-install from square 1.
can someone tell me if i did this right(and by right I mean get everything i need to be up-to-date as possible):
1.Dl'd and Installed mox's manalink 2.0 into(D:\games\MTG) >2. Restart CPU >3. DL'd and Installed Latest Code Patch directly into D:\games\MTG, overwrite everything when prompted. >4. DL'd and Installed CardArtNew into D:\games\MTG, overwrite everything when prompted.
>5. DL'd and installed CardArtLim into D\games\MTG, overwrite everything when prompted, separated all .jpg files and put them into a new folder named CardArtLim. >6. Applied patch to both versions. >7. Re-start CPU.
Am i missing something?

What's in bold? A resume of all previous steps or some others files that you copied to the magic folder? What are "both versions", are you referring to Shandalar/latest?1.Dl'd and Installed mox's manalink 2.0 into(D:\games\MTG) >2. Restart CPU >3. DL'd and Installed Latest Code Patch directly into D:\games\MTG, overwrite everything when prompted. >4. DL'd and Installed CardArtNew into D:\games\MTG, overwrite everything when prompted.

sorry, i should've been more specific. By both versions I'm talking about Magic Constructed and Magic Limited. 2 different .exe files.
I tried it and it seems stable. Their a many recent card, but a few missing.
Going to try this my2000 program to bring some cards over from limited to constructed, wish me luck.
