Installing, am I missing something?

Postby Relic » 19 Jun 2010, 22:41

Hey there guys! I just recently found out about ManaLink and the work you guys have been having with patching and evolving the game.

As of now I have followed the install guide provided in your wiki with little success. Here we go, correct if something I did was wrong:

1. I downloaded:
-Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part1.rar (92.77 MB)
-Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version.part2.rar (91.76 MB)

2. Unzipped it and had the Manalink available to play after restarting my PC.

3. Downloaded:
-Latest Code Patch (required)

4. Opened it and all its content was copied and pasted to the "Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version" folder thereby replacing some files.

5. Downloaded:
-Non-Card Art (required)

6. Opened it and all its content (inside the non_cardart folder and not just the folder itself) was copied and pasted to the "Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version" folder.

7. Downloaded:
-CardArtNew (the one from the wiki).

8. Opened it and all its content was copied and pasted to the "Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version" folder replacing some files.

9. Downloaded:
-CardArtLim

10. Copy pasted the folder itself IIRC it's how it suppose to be.

11. "Latest Code Patch (required)" has an .exe that applies the patch to your Manalink (looks like a diskette), it has some options, something down the line "apply costume", "apply limited" "apply all", did "apply all", got a success message "patch was successfully applied to -costume -limited"

12. Hit Magic.exe and got a blackscreen, being unable to use anything. Same happens if I try to use the deckbuilder.

I tried it several time in a row, restarted my PC in some instances just to be sure that that wasn't the problem, but I can't figure it out what went wrong. Any help?

Using W7 64bit (I can run Manalink before patching, that's a given).

Thanks for your time

It's advisable to rename your magic folder from Microprose MTG Mok's Manalink 2.0 Version" into simplier words, something like "magic" and be put into a simple path like c:/magic or c:/games/magic.

Game should be playable at part 9 but is unstable on W7, you need to dualboot or virtualize Wxp

Have you tried installing the original DotP game before installing Mok's Manalink 2.0 patch? I think it requires that DotP be installed first before applying Mok's ML 2.0 patch.

You can find the link to the DotP installer here: viewtopic.php?f=55&t=898

Game is old as heck so it runs better on XP or older OS.
