M2.0 is now slower after reinstall?

Postby grinnin » 14 Nov 2010, 06:26

This is going to be a bit of an odd one but:

Recently I did a clean format of my computer and of course before I did I backed up my C:\magic\ folder. I installed the exact same version of XP that was running earlier but now i've noticed two odd things:

1. Game music is still playing. Not all of it, but there coinflip sound is back and a 'you win sound.' I've long-ago renamed trashed my DuelSounds folder and there is not currently any folder named Duelsounds in that directory.

2. The game runs slower. This is the more problematic one to describe but the one thats most impactful. I've noticed now when I'm playing a game with a lot of cards on the screen, or editing something in the deck editor which also means there will be a lot of cards, it takes at least a second or two between clicks on a card for the actual action to register. This never happened before. I've also noticed that while playing the whole game seems to have a slightly better resolution. The size isn't different, but things like card text and backgrounds seem to be rendered better- But I haven't changed the resolution on my computer (its the same as it was prior to the reinstall.)

Any thoughts?

1. There is a thread in the Shandalar section for lowering/disabling sound, maybe it will work in Duel mode.

2. Due to adding new gameplay system, games are going slower as cards are added in the battlefield.

Yeah, definitely aware of the games going slower, but this is a dramatic change from pre-format to post-install and its using the exact same c:\magic folder so thats I guess why I was wondering if there was a setting (visual or otherwise) that I might need to change?
