I don't know to help you get this to work but if you don't already know you can use the Mtg 2010 iso with all the cards originally made by Microprose + a lot more cards just not cards of the last 10 years or so.

Adacc wrote:yeah I tried both of those suggestions. Neither worked. The problem is the installation is for an older system and will not install on a newer platform. I assume the only fix would be some sort of patch or modifying program.

Again, this confirmation thing is a pain in the butt!
The program has been heavily patched over the years already, due to an oversight on the part of Microprose which made the game incompatible with all windows versions after Win95.
Unfortunately, according to most of the posts on compatibility problems I've seen, Win7 seems to have more luck running the game than Vista. I use XP SP3 without problems, but for some reason others have even found problems with that.

The only suggestion I could make would be to follow Aswan Jaguar's advise above, and install the ISO version - which is probably the most stable of the original versions of the game, and also contains all the available patches within its installer. If you can get this version to run, you will probably find the later versions - like the SCV - will simply overwrite the older ISO version, whilst retaining the patches at the same time.

If no luck with that, your final option would be to open a 'Vista Help Wanted' post in the root 'Installation and troubleshooting' folder and hopefully attract the attention of someone who's succeeded in getting the game to work on Vista.

I unzipped magic.rar and CardArt_20110503.zip, as instructed in the first post. What patch(es) should I install, and which card art? I'm pretty much just interested in sealed and draft.

Why is it important to delete the old card art folders before installing new?

edit: here's what I've downloaded (pic attached). I'm afraid to just unzip everything into the same folder.

You need only the last update-20111201 v2, extract it to your magic folder. It has 2 files MagicGY_v45 and NewLimited_v2 copy their contents also to magic folder.
Then delete all artwork folders and extract the cardart_20111201 v2 and cardart_GY_20111201 v2 and you are good to go.

Remember to use only the Batch to play ManalinkGY(Golden years mod),ManalinkNL(New Limited).

Finally you should have 4 different Manalink Exes:Manalink (constructed),ManalinkL(Limited),ManalinkGY(Golden years mod),ManalinkNL(New Limited) each with lots of different cards and ways to play.

Important News Concerning the Future of the Card Art

We are currently testing a new Card Art library mod by Snacko.

The mod is unique in that it works by referencing the artwork files by card name as opposed to the standard image file ID numbers. The advantage to the end user is that rather than having the usual separate CartArtxxx folders for each version of the game, with separate artwork in each folder – a single folder can be used for all versions, and only one set of artwork is required for any of the cards duplicated in any of the versions.
This reduces the number of artwork files significantly, and the HD space required by the game.

The download and more information about the mod is available here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5897

The download includes all the necessary files, including the artwork currently available in the most recent ‘4 folder’ Card Art Update listed in the post above.
Please use this thread to report any bugs or issues you have with the mod.

We request you give the mod a try, and, more importantly, report any problems you may have with it. Hopefully then we can fully implement this mod into the game in the near future.
