Should they be in read only mode?
No I didn't create a character face first, I just edited it after choosing my level and color. Even if I just use the default with no chances it still has graphic glitches.
My OS is Windows XP.

If the files are in read only mode you may have problems, you need to remove their read only mode properties if you have any in that state.
You need to create a character that you will "incarnate" which keep your playing record. This is necessary in Duel mode but I don't know for Shandalar.
Just in case create one in the main menu of Manalink.

Ok I checked and none of the files are read only.
I did try making my own character but you can't use them in Shandalar as it wants you to make a new one every time.
Anyway...here's a picture of what it's doing.

As you can see, it won't even show my character, the name is all bugged out, and it doesn't even remain full screen. It's full screen until that part and it never goes back to full screen and it starts graphic glitching even worse.

as the pic i dunno i have that issue too but you just use the backspace and it will get rid of all of that name.
can I maze of ith your snowstorm?

Don't know if it helps, but maybe you could make a backup copy of your Magic folder and download this file (http://www.mediafire.com/?lezx3rbl89sl1mf), extracting its contents into your Magic folder.
It might make Shandalar/Facemaker work better, it might not. Just an option...

Ok, I just tried that fix you suggested. It fixed the full screen problem and the bugging out of all the graphics I mentioned having a problem with.
However....it caused a new graphic glitch during duels. The background of the duel is completely black with no picture and things overlap each other like life totals and stuff.

that is because you need the new artwork update. when mok fixed the 2k bug he also fixed up the images as well. this zip file should have all the artwork just drop it in the duelart folder

Ok, I converted every .pic file to .bmp in my Duelart folder and it still looks like that. =/
Also, I don't know if this has anything to do with any of this, but my Manalink.exe doesn't work.

Well then, we need a detailed list of the files in your Magic folder in order to compare with our working one.
The easiest way would be to copy and paste your Magic folder location into a browser like firefox then copy paste its content.

Unfortunately not the full content is listed so you will have to make several copy paste so we can check the folders inside your Magic folder.Opening the folder in Firefox will also allow you to copy the names of the files and folders and paste it into Word. It will also include the date created and size information, I'm not sure if you're looking for that too.
To do this:
1. Open the desired folder in Windows Explorer
2. Copy the address of the folder e.g. c:\folderwithfiles
3. Open Firefox
4. Paste into the address bar.
5. Highlight the text you want
6. Copy and paste
