Possible to compontentize the duel?

I was thinking about if it would be possible to componentize the duel portion of Magic. This means that you'd add features to the program to allow it to skip the default frontend, and go straight to a duel given two decks. It would be able to return to a calling program who won, as well as any ante-card transactions (bronze tablet, etc). It would also be able to set initial life totals, and put cards into play on each player's side.

Something like this could mean someone could create their own shandalar-like frontend for the game.

Of course, it would also need a way to have a frontend draw a card.
