M10 - Any interest?

Postby jatill » 17 Aug 2009, 14:23

So there are just about enough slots left to code most of M10 (I am competent enough to code about 85% of the set... sorry Planeswalkers). Are people interesting in having another complete (mostly) core set added to the game? Or would you rather leave the slots free for future cards?

Also, if I were to code M10, I'd need a helper willing to do the SkyMagic Editor work, which requires no coding knowledge. Would anyone be interested in helping? It's probably a 6 hour job there.

I'm kind of torn there. On some aspects it would be nice, but I like it better when cards are added that I'll actually use (outside of drafting/sealed). I'm voting no.

There's no need to code it all, there are some interesting cards that should/could be added such as Baneslayer Angel, Silence (Altough i don't know if it's doable), the rest are either bad cards, old cards, or new cards that are equal to old ones but have different names.

most of the cards have been there before - just got renamed and an altered artwork.no need to change the "only pick good cards" system.
unless there is a way to break this 2k cards limit.

I think the game is more fun keeping to the better quality cards; it just opens up a larger variety of decks that can be played. Sure, it would be nice to draft / play sealed with M10, but in my opinion, Burst of Speed et al would be an amazing waste of slots when we are so short on space for new cards... and what then happens when the next set is released?

People may disagree on this, but I actually think it would be a good idea to *cull* some cards already on Manalink. Not anything in the original game, or in 8th Edition (may as well leave it complete for limited), but things like Abbey Gargoyles would probably be better as a tournament staple (e.g. Tradewind Rider  ). There are some cards I have never actually played with in either sealed or constructed, and while I'm sure some have, other cards would serve the community better as a whole.

I say this with the ultimate goal of making Manalink the best game it can be (it is already well on the way thanks to the efforts of the coders involved in this project over the years).

Of course, all this is moot if someone actually cracks the 2000 card limit!

yes there is a few good cards that I wouldn't mind seeing (I've surprised myself in actually buying a few boosters) but I think , you have the right method in picking a few choice cards.

how about switching M10 for 8th? keep the best ones from 8th, and get M10 in complete for limited. M10 was made with limited in mind, so it sounds like a good idea to me.

otherwise, at least the new duals should be in :) and the angel and the colossus.

well from a deckbuilders view you can´t have enough different cards. the land types might be good cause you can fetch them ,but on the other hand they are not affected by sundering titan for example.they are also decent manafixers(obviously) for sealed deck.

I completely agree with soma, I think we should save the room for coming sets given the low count of available slots. I think there should be a revision of the existing cards to eliminate garbage cards like Tangle Kelp , Dehydration , Polar Bears , etc. to make room for enjoyable synergistically compatible and competitive strategies. There's definitely great cards in M10 that could be included, but I don't think it's worth using all the available slots on most of the set.

Well, the poll certainly is clear. No M10 it is! :) I probably agree with the opinions posted here, so long as the 2000 card limit is in place. M10 probably wouldn't have been as fun without the Planeswalkers anyway.

the new duals don't make you lose life, which can be important in some decks. and as has been said, they're not affected by the sundering titan-style effects which may or may not be important.

there other good cards in M10, like doom blade (I don't think it's in yet), which essentially makes terror weak unless you really need to kill regenerators.
