the idea of autotargeting:
the basic idea behind autotargeting is to save doing clicks.
as long as there is just a single legal target it will automaticly getting targeted.
as long as there are 2 or more legal targets and the card is not listed - nothing will happen.
when cards typicly target the AI or its permanents they belong to the TargetsAI list.
when cards typicly target yourself or your permanents they belong to the TargetsHuman list.

how to improve autotargeting?
below are the 2 basic lists i made just with common sense without any playtesting.
(these are the files in the recent patches,i´d like to update this here so everybody can use em right now)
now that you can use the autotargeting feature (config.txt file set ->"SmartTarget:1" to activate) you can easily check if a card uses the feature or not.
i obviously don´t play with every single card listed in the game and this is where i need some help.also i am a human and i make mistakes.i may have overlooked some cards that should belong inside the list.maybe a recent added card should belong onto any of the 2 lists - just leave a note so everybody can use this feature.

how can i help?
just play like you normally would (with the exception that you play with smarttarget:1) and when you notice any cards that aren´t using the feature propperly post the card name and what went wrong.keep in mind that his is not a bug report thread.
maybe a card isn´t listed yet and thus doesn´t do autotargeting.
maybe cards ARE listed here that behave strange with autotargeting and shouldn´t be on the list anymore.
just let me know the card name and the issues with it and i´ll adjust the 2 autotargeting lists.

-Honden of Infinite Rage // the card sometimes skips the damage while autotargeting . autotargeting MAY cause this.090915
-Burn spells don´t deal damage when there are no creatures ingame/or the only creature has protection from the spell. 091009
-Removed some more Burn Spells from the list i forgot to remove. 091012
-Removed Magister Sphinx // Sometimes you want to target yourself with this. 091022
note:
used code tags for longer lists for a better overview.
i´m going to try to keep the 2 main lists updated.

yupp. i might have overlooked a few . currently still testing.

btw i keep overwriting the same 2 files on my webspace. so its always the same link.

let me know if i missed a card or some card is out of place/got the wrong id ... whatever.

update . removed a bunch of burn spells from TargetAI.txt - autotargeting causing errors too frequently when there is an illeagal target as the only creature or there is no creature.
also removed a couple cards that shouldn´t use autotargeting (blood lust,immolation etc).

some minor update . forgot to remove a few cards (incinerate etc).

we are going to need new lists for the complete Zendikar set . Anyone willing to do it ?

a seperated list would be helpful (only card ID 1500 - 1680).
using the same system :
TargetsAI.txt -> spells that target your opponent/his permanents
TargetsHuman.txt -> spells that target you/your permanents.

prolly going to do this in a few days if nobody else wants to do it.

Should I report any bad choices in the autotarget list here? Like for example, Magister Sphinx is set to target the AI every time, and I lost a game because it autotargeted the AI, when I wanted to target myself. I just deleted it in my list, since I thought that one was silly, but there might be others like that.

Eureka autotargets the last permanent in your hand. This turns out to be a Bad Thing when you have two Progenitus and it autoplays the second one :p

I had to remove tribal flames from the list. like many other burn spells, it couldn't be used against the A.I. when there was no creatures in play with Autotargeting on

Not sure if this belongs here or in the bug thread, but with autotargeting on, I hardcast a Maelstrom Angel, and in hand I had 2 land and a spell, and it automatically played the spell after the angel came into play.

Activated Qasali Pridemage, intending to disenchant an enemy Mox (he also had a millstone to target). Instead, much to my shock, it autotargeted my only artifact, a Tidehollow Sculler!

Planeswalker Jace Beleren need to be added to the notarget list, the ultimate milling ability autotarget the AI while it can be useful to target self in challenge 5:1
