I just had an idea. It doesn't apply specifically to Zendikar, but I just posted elsewhere explaining why we don't have doublestrike Zendikar cards, and an idea hit me.
Is it possible to code doublestrike by creating a kind of 'dummy' creature that is put into combat whenever a creature with doublestrike is involved in combat? For instance, you attack with a 1/1 doublestrike creature. It could be coded as a 1/1 first strike creature, and then whenever it enters battle, a 1/1 not-first-strike creature is put into combat in a kind of pseudo-banding group with it.
It might be a giant pain in the rear, and maybe not even possible, but it might be worth looking at, if it seems feasible to code it that way.
