I found an interesting list awhile back. It contains all cards in magic that are or ever were banned or restricted in any format at any time. (vintage, legacy, extended, standard) Mostly I'm just putting it up for fun and a little bit of nostalgia. It'll also give people an idea of what cards were commonly abused, and perhaps lead them to deck ideas they wouldn't have had normally. Also, if Jatill sees it, he might be inspired by the very few left on this list that we don't yet have.

I got a real kick out of some of the ones that were restricted (and unrestricted again) before my day, like Dingus Egg, Ali from Cairo, and ORCISH ORIFLAMME (LOLOLOLOL). Actually, going through this, those are the only three I don't remember ever seeing on the lists.

I'm not sure if this is the reason why, but in Alpha, Orcish Oriflamme was printed with an erroneous casting cost (1R instead of 3R) so maybe it was banned because later printings were corrected over Alpha, and not due to umm... (stifles laughter) being overpowered at the time.

Of the cards on this list, the ones not yet in-game are:

Amulet of Quoz (ante card, pointless in duel anyway)
Chaos Orb (flip card, cannot be implemented except perhaps as an approximation, like destroy random permanents)
Divine Intervention (a stupid card anyway, only banned because ties mess up tournaments)
Doomsday (this one has use)
Dream Halls (this one has a lot of use, even at 3UU)
Earthcraft (part of some combos, like Squirrel Nest)
Falling Star (see chaos orb)
Gifts Ungiven (we had it, sort of, but it couldn't be cast successfully, so Jatill removed it)
Goblin Recruiter
Hermit Druid (dump deck into graveyard for some combos)
Illusionary Mask (probably hard to code, and the current errata is so far from the original card that it gives me a sour taste in my mouth :p)
Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero (pointless unless more rebels are coded)
Metalworker
Recall (should be easy to do, but isn't that powerful anyway)
Replenish (Like Living Death or Liliana Vess, only enchantments, though local enchantments might be a pain)
Rishadan Port (Staple in T2 in its day, and still useful even now)
Shahrazad (only useful for making opponents commit suicide, quit magic, or die of old age)
Squandered Resources (Prosbloom, Stasis decks, etc)
Thawing Glaciers (used to be T2 staple)
Timmerian Fiends (ante card, useless in duel)
Worldgorger Dragon (probably tough to code)

i need a restriction/banned list for the FAQ . could you create a updated list for the game ?

currently i just got a link to the wizards page - and i don´t know if the cards listed there are actually banned/restricted ingame aswell.

we could use this as a sticky thread then aswell.

You're missing Erhnam Djinn. I can see how you'd miss them.

As far as Replenish, it was a beast with Opalescence in Urza's block after Tolarian Academy got hit.

I'm not sure which banned/restricted list Jatill coded in. I built all my challenge decks vintage-style and never had any problems. I did find that you cannot use 4x brainstorm, which apparently you can do in legacy, but not vintage. This applies even if your deck is legacy-legal. The other difference I found is that you can use Contract from Below. I never tried any other ante cards, since that's the only one that gives a card advantage.

For the list, the source (I forget where it was now :p) didn't have Ernham Djinn on the list. It was some website, somewhere, and I cut/paste it all into a file to keep, and that's what I used to put in this thread. The only edit I made was to put in Thirst for Knowledge, because the list was a few months old.

Do you have any idea about how to edit the banned-restricted list for Microprose Game? I think it should really be revised, now that we have such a different environment.

I have no idea :p You can edit AI Shandalar decks, to "fix" the ones with 4x Mana Vault and stuff like that, though. They're just text files. When it comes to duel, I just follow the B/R lists myself, and when it comes to Shandalar, I usually just do whatever I want anyway. (though I've played Shandalar I think once since finding Mok's manalink)
