Post 2k limit development

ok since we are talking post 2k fix now i figured we should have a new thread instead of being in the deckbuilder thread. Anyways here is a list i compiled of all the card code inside of magic.exe it was easy to compile due to it being i think in the ct all xls i just removed all of the non 0x4 code as that is all in the magic.exe so here is that. right now im currently looking through code and trying to compile an index of functions. now if peeps want to help with the first list all they have to do is have IDA and open up magic.exe in there and start looking at the subs. i kinda jumped around a bit but i have found where the start turn to end of turn phases reside at i believe. i found some sealed deck func. too. anyways we should make a wiki on the complete sub listing that way anybody can help if they know how. then we can take the full sub and discuss this to see if this is all correct and then i think we could jump to removing all the card code to the dll. what do you think?

Too bad I couldn't help : I know almost nothing of ASM :(

- Current / medium term task: adjusting the code for making Misdirection and such usable
- Long term task: inserting all the good stuff I left out from the "Golden Years" mod

you can still help, hell i dont even know how to code but anything can help. Can you code some of the original cards to c? If you can do that there is a good spot to start to try on. im sure there are even original cards that can be changed to c doe without even coding, im assuming some of them have the same code or do the same that is. IDA has a accessorie that converts asm to psuedo c which im sure could help? if you dont have IDA or hex rays i can provide it to you or anybody who would like to help.

I can *try* coding, if just copy-pasting existing cards in something like Notepad++ and changing some words and values works. I looked into it when new Sorin was spoiled (thinking it might be possible to splice him together from old planeswalkers) but I don't know what files all need to be changed.

Otherwise if there'll be a need for systematic bug hunts I could help with that.

right now the first thing is to figure out what functions are what. here is a list of what i have currently. not complete by any means but its a start.
What we dont want to do is continue hacking the game. from now on i think we should consider the new 2k fix beta 2 a starting point for a fresh start. which means doing things the right way. if we can source out the rest of magic.exe and convert cards coded in magic.exe to c after figuring out all the subs and functions we can then goto getting the actual program recoded in c and fixing it up once and for all. Since i cannot edit the wiki i think it would be great if whoever can to add the txt file up there but make it editable by all so that it can be updated when someone figures out a sub..dont you think? can anybody do this?

Hum I will ask Huggy about that but I was pretty sure anyone would be able to edit the wiki (don't forget that the wiki is a different "area" than the forum and you need to login again in the wiki area to be able to edit to your heart content -click on wiki tab then on special pages in the left of your browser then on Log in / create account with your forum login)

I agree that there should be a place where to get the latest file, so you could start investigating on your own.
But i don't think it should be modified on a whim by anybody, as is possible in the wiki.
As Mok said, when someone thinks he has figured out a particular function, it should be discussed/confirmed by others before editing the file. That way the chance of a false explanation of a function is a lot smaller.
This also eliminates the chance of someone being 'funny' and just name a function.
As for coding everything in C:
i don't know if the AI should be programmed in C. Assembly(asm) is faster and i would like the computer to calculate more moves in the same amount of time.
Maybe in time we can change the max calculation time, like a chesscomputer. lvl 1 is a short calculation-time, lvl 2 a bit longer, and so on.
just my 2 cents...

Well my idea wasent for the wiki to be the end all. Just a pplace to start. but I can see the flaws now that u mention it. But maybe we could give everybody who is willing to help a number to start and stop that way it isn't overwelmed by one person. Ie 0x400x to 0x410x

Can anyone please provide a csv with only the cards by Microprose and partners before any mods were done so no values are changed or as close to that?

i believe my first post in here has that card code address, but if you want a csv of the original i dont know what to tell you this is the closest thing i have. In the original mok alpha series he never gave out the csv just the cards.dat

Well, I don't know if this'll be any help at all but I've always been curious about the exact list of cards available in the original DotP and Manalink 1.3.2... so I did some legwork and made a PlayDeck with all of the Cards available in a fresh install of DotP, sorted it by CardID# and compared with the Cards available in Manalink 1.3.2. The result was this list of 631 cards that were available before the game was hacked (+16 if you include Manalink 1.3.2, which "unlocked" cards that were already present rather than "adding" them, right?). The last card in either version is ".951 Water Wurm", so everything up to and including that should probably be included and all later entries could be safely ommitted. Set all CSV entries not on this list to "Not Coded" and that might be as close as you can get to an original CSV.

Is there a way to back-convert the csv from the cards.dat? Are there any other files generated\needed when running csv2dat? I was just looking at cards.dat in a HexEditor and noticed that the file format seems to have changed since the original DotP. Does anyone know more about the earlier format? I like to tinker with this sorta thing, so if it's not too difficult (and it would prove to be useful) I might try to write a back-converter... I'd just need to know what-goes-where.
Please tell me if such a program would be pointless.

Thanks,CirothUngol without any serious investigation I thought that the last cad was Sanctimony-970.I am trying to learn more about the csv values as you did once and Orion79 and also decrypt the magic exe values now we have them in a csv (ct_all).
I will take into account the values until ".951 Water Wurm".This helps a lot.
I am working on hack mode (0-7)to clarify what we already know-believed, I checked all cards rules text-and other values (except value 1) and I believe I have decrypted some of them little better.
The names of values in csv (Manalink) are named by Mok like the ones of the csv (ct_all)?

EditThe cards missing from 631+16=647 till ".951 Water Wurm" are the non coded and empty cards?
