just so everybody knows the .pic file is encrypted and i have tried every kind of program out therte to show it. when i found the viewpic.exe i was in shock. granted it was written by the one and only Mok so he knew then what we are trying to figure out now.. :( If someone can decompile that part of the code or even decompile the bmp2pic and reverse it that would be great. Just remember that this program was originally used to give you a different face like his example of garfield. now with that said i believe that there can be a windows mode made for this or at the very least just reverse it so i can take the pic files and change them to bmp's. you make the program and ill reverse the pics. i have a win98 disc and i have some free time coming up this week due to training at work. so if you can get it done i will work on it this week and if all goes well have all the pic files changed to bmps by the weekend..providing we dont have any complications with the program...if that is available. just trying to do my part

Well, like I mentioned earlier, it would be easier to use dosbox than install a virtual machine and win98, unless you've never used dosbox before.

I'm working on a self contained package, I'll know soon if it works.

And the bmp2pic program in on the download page now.

cool :)
Ok, i've tried to get the size of the elements of the duel set doing some fidgetting in photoshop. I've assumed the original definition of the game would be 800 x 600. and sliced the playmat parts for a start. If i've done everything right and the cut was precisely on the right pixel, the playmats are 568 x 300 pixels. So i've started to make a few playmats to replace the original ones in BMP.
I've changed the color mode to 256 colors  to turn them into .pic files but that may not work since, in his read me, Mok seems to imply that the indexed colors must match the game's palette.
He seems to say his little executable only turns pics of a certain size. I hope that he only spoke of the files intended for the facemaker, and that files of other size can be turned. otherwise we will be trying in vain.
If it is so. I'll keep cutting the different original elements in photoshop. At least those we can almost recognize by name in the folders. and hope I found the right sizes. nad we find a way to tell the game to load bmps or Jpegs instead of those .pic files of doom.

It's working, so here's the standalone preconfigured DosBox version for you:

FACE Maker DosBox.rar (3.74 MB)
http://www.mediafire.com/?ymmz5ummnji -or-
http://rapidshare.com/files/210385283/F ... DosBox.rar

In the D-Fend Reloaded folder, run DFend.exe.

(Optional: Select File/Program Options/Language)
(If you select Advanced mode you can also enable Wine support.)

Read the CCGHQ QUICK START.

Then select SMok's FACE Maker profile. Double click it or click the Run button.
The Garfield pic will show up so you can see that everything is working.
Hit ESC to exit that, then type DIR to see the directory.

Type "edit bmp2pic.txt" If you want to read the instructions. Or just type "edit" and select the file the way we used to do it. ;)

Ctrl-F10 releases your mouse from the DosBox window.

Hit alt-Enter to toggle full screen mode.

Type exit to quit DosBox.

mathusalem wrote:Ok, since this forum is rich in coders  I wish to asress an issue to which we found no solutions until now.

We need to open the .pic files in the game to revamp the game's appearence. and replace those files with a format that is easier to handle.
+ to replace those files we need to know their pixel size

what we know :
These .pic files are not the Macintosh image format (Macs can't open them)
Graphic apes can't open them
These file are more probably a simple bmp image in a secure proprietary format.

basically if we want more sets in the deck builder we're going to have to face this problem one day anyway.
So if anyone out there finds a way.... please we need your help ! :)
Thanks in advance :)
I would agree with that issue, if first someone could find a way to eliminate the 2000 card limit problem. With that limit we are not stuck with the problem of making new edition or block symbols, since we are going to select just the best cards.

math i took all thepic files and made png files for each one so you dont need to cut any out of a snapshot.

yes this prog only was meant for the facemaker and nothing else. that is why im wondering if we can get a coder to fix it to accept any size image or make a quick windows gui to do just this.

also i thought someone already explained that we could go over the 2000 card limit something like 4000 cards

Maybe they did, but there's been so much posting it's hard to keep track.

I'd like someone to summarize exactly what the limitations are in the original program, and what the new limits (if any) are, and how they are overcome. It's important info that's helpful to the future of this project, and belongs on the wiki.
