Hybrid - opionions wanted

Postby jatill » 19 Mar 2009, 17:26

So I got hybrid working correctly in terms of casting cards (yay). The problem is there is currently no such thing as a hybrid mana symbol in this game. So for a card like Oversoul of Dusk, what would you like the mana cost to look like?

Choices are 5, GGGGG, 3GW, or GGGWW, and variations thereof.

Personally, I prefer GGGGG. 3GW is nice, but if there is a card that costs 2HHH, I'm not sure how that would look.

do you mean there is no way to implement hybrid mana symbols or, no mana symbols available ?...
you know that I can do the card faces in a matter of.... a very short time (got the WG hybrid one ready)

There's no place to indicate hybrid in the card data structure, and I don't have any clue how to mess with that. So it's not just a lack of images we're dealing with.

Ok, I just tried Oversoul of dusk. as much as I didn't like the previous aproximation, (I usually flagged it off), I think this one is technicxally the same as the original.
I think, that given the "choice dialogue" the cost you proposed is correct. i will keep that baby on
as I said i got the images ready, so if, now that you are using C, you can find a way to implement the symbols and card faces, just let me know.

you have a curious bug coming up with oversoul, however, the AI wanted to cast Naturalize while it was in play, and I got the Oversoul dialogue box ("pay {G} {G} {G} {G} {W} ?") I declined the offer, and the AI busted one of its own moxen..... weird behavior if ye ask me.....must have been drinkin'

Yeah, but how smart would the AI have looked if you had actually paid GGGGW? :)

Edit: Fixed, I think.

Maybe, you can do that as colorless mana, but in card has to have ability

"Hybrid 3 G or W (3 mana in spell's casting cost must be payed only with G or W mana)"

for example:

--------------------------------------------------------------
Something 5
Creature
Hybrid 2: R or B (2 mana in spell's casting cost can be payed only with R or B mana)
7/7
---------------------------------------------------------------

This example shows that this creature must be cast with 3 colorless mana and 2 mana of the casting cost must be Red or Black in any combination.

This is not easy job, but this is one idea.
What do you think about idea?

Colorless mana is what was before.

Yes, 1 colorless mana means that you can spend exactly 1 mana of any color.
1 Hybrid mana is generally spending 1 mana of specific color (like Red or Black from example above).

Spell Something actually cost: 3 (R\B)(R\B)

I think "5" on its casting cost is ok, with its proper correction in the text box. Colored mana cost are confuse.

Think about the problem and its solving as "what this game can swallow" and it already swallows colorless as mana cost...
but it swallows lot of stuff.
Making the Hybrid as constrain for colorless mana is not bad solution whereas Magic does not have any support for Hybrid.

Of course, Hybrid's spells must have text " 'This spell' count as 'first color' and 'second color' ". :)
