Donate: best card for combo?

Postby 0rion79 » 25 Nov 2009, 12:30

Hello :D
Since Jatill has had the good idea of coding Donate, I would like to know which card you would "give" to your opponent. I was immediately thinking to Demonic Hordes that, if the opponent hasn't black mana, would cause a "custom" Armageddon only on opponent's lands. Sadly, Thought Lash isn't coded yet :)
What else do you suggest?
Maybe Lord of the Pit with Pacifism upon it? :P

There is an elephant in the middle of the room named Illusions of Grandeur...

Ouch, great :) I just didn't see that card in the list, maybe because it was locked by the Challenge Mode

Illusions of Grandeur is the one people used in tournaments. Thought Lash was the one me and my local friends immediately hit on as soon as Donate was printed, but that's too slow. Force of Nature, Demonic Hordes, or Serendib Djinn (his upkeep is not optional) would be fun, too.

One convoluted combo I saw on the internet even before Donate came out, using Gauntlets of Chaos, was Derelor + Sleight of Mind + Gauntlets of Chaos. Switch a Sleighted Derelor with an opponent's creature. Then, he puzzles over how he is going to pay an extra B mana for his red spells in a monored deck or something. However, setting up such a thing, the opponent having a creature, and the opponent not having black mana sources all at once is not very darned likely.

It won't work in real life, but I think donating Lich will work due to the rules engine limitations in manalink. In real life you'd instantly die since you were at 0 life from the Lich, and Donating it won't change that, but on manalink, I think your life reverts to whatever it was before you played Lich.

Derelor is a great card and I would be very happy if somebody would code enough thrulls in this game to make a good tribe deck [-o<
About Force of Nature & co, they are all good options but they would still harm you in the mean time. Probably Demonic Hordes is the best one because it taps during upkeep and can't be used to attack. But what if the opponent has black? They are not-definitive cards and probabily the Illusions of Grandeur is the only card for a true & solid combo.... even if white color is usually able to gain A LOT of life points.

The other ridiculousness of the Illusions card is you keep the 20 life even if you donate it.

So you go up from 10 to 30 then you give him the enchantment and he gets nothing. Except he will lose 20 life if the enchantment ever leaves play via the upkeep.

and it doesn't even have to be due to him not being able to pay the upkeep, just bounce it or destroy it and he takes 20 to the dome :)

i read somewhere that someone could disenchant illusions with the 20 life gain on the stack and that would result in you losing the game. ( provided that you were at 20 life and didn't cast any more spells after the disenchant ) is this right?

Yes, a well timed Disenchant could kill the Trix player.

The only missing card for me is Intuition. Intuition would make the search for the combo easier and quicker. Fact or Fiction is not a real alternative.

Why do you need such card? If you are looking for a combo, use Enlightened Tutor: controll decks usually need white anyway.

I don´t want to add white. I would need Intuition for other decks too.
