ABC's

If you're playing 'S' and having trouble, try Stinkweed Imp. It's an absolute house against the swarm decks. The rest of my list is similar to others posted, but try to find room for 4 of these guys.

Re: Challenge Set #4 (Spoilers)

I had a surprising amount of difficulty with Life's a Lich. But considering how fun this challenge is I was glad to replay it over and over again. I tried three different strategies: Broken Ad Nauseum Tendrils, which was the most fun but also the most unstable, UB Control/Isochron which got me to round 9 but was so slow I was loathe to try it again, and Defense/Lifegain which ultimately won the challenge for me even though the deck is not in its final stages. If I were to try again i'd push the lifegain deck more towards the control side with Daze and some cheaper counters. Basically the idea is to drop a Turn 1/2 ivory tower or lone missionary with at some 1cc creature removal to back it up. More than once I came close to decking myself with a tower in play so once board position is achieved i'd always bounce it back to my hand lest get screwed. The deck could be much more streamlined, admittedly.

Also its worth pointing out that solitary confinement and luminarch ascension do not work together right now. Whenever solitary confinement blocks the damage, luminarch still doesnt get any counters. Not sure if thats an M2 thing or a rules thing but It almost cost me the game to the counter/sliver deck when I couldnt figure out a way to get rid of the untargetable slivers. Thankfully he didnt have any winged slivers in play so i was able to drop a moat and counter all of the winged slivers when he drew them.

I'd say the Nausea deck was the most fun but I got sick of Ad Nausea randomly deciding that it wasn't going to let me reveal anymore cards. Other than those two bugs this was my favorite challenge yet though!

Re: Challenge Set #4 (Spoilers)

Postby grinnin » 15 Oct 2010, 22:47

I finally beat Pit Fighting!

I got to round 16 on the first try with a UR Belcher deck. I tried all of the other Belcher builds in this thread but I was always seemed to have too much mana (either red or black) and not enough card drawing. The blue Draw 7s helped quite nicely for that.

There are two weird choices in this deck: Gamble and Darksteel Colossus. While I think I only got the Colossus into play twice (once hard-casted), there must have been half a dozen tries when he wasn't in the deck that he would have squeaked out the win for me. More often than not I wound up with both Jar and Tinker in hand.

Gamble is really a surprisingly great card in this challenge because its so hard to find non-red mana in this challenge, a tutor for R that puts a card in hand is amazing. I was just always sure to cast it early, with at least 4 cards in hand to ensure I kept what I needed. Only once did I lose the card I gamble'd for, and I think I was still able to recover. Its so powerful, actually, that if I were to tinker with this deck I would toss out the Empty the Warrens (it was cast once) and put in Tinder Walls to power the tutor. The priority gamble targets are Lotus, Channel, then Wheel, and sometimes a Belcher if its necessary, though a Draw7 will usually turn one up and enough cards to act as a backup plan as well.

.1424 1 Lotus Petal
.894 1 Mana Crypt
.157 1 Mana Vault
.17 1 Black Lotus
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.230 1 Sol Ring
.1892 4 Elvish Spirit Guide
.1897 4 Land Grant
.1898 1 Lion's Eye Diamond
.30 1 Channel
.1685 3 Chromatic Star
.1894 4 Goblin Charbelcher
.282 1 Wheel of Fortune
.1900 1 Memory Jar
.1904 4 Simian Spirit Guide
.1696 4 Manamorphose

.309 1 Windfall
.1 1 Ancestral Recall
.1351 1 Tinker
.250 1 Timetwister
.1708 4 Gamble
.653 1 Darksteel Colossus

EDIT: Just beat the Cascade challenge with this deck. Changes were:

+1 Chromatic Star
+2 Tinder Wall
+1 Tropical Island
-2 Empty the Warrens
-1 Taiga
-1 Ancestrall Recall (!!)

I also used belcher for firs 4 challenges but with only one land in it so I can kill more easily and for ABC i used an F deck:

.91 20 Forest
.865 2 Faerie Dragon
.1538 4 Farhaven Elf
.292 4 Fauna Shaman
.635 4 Fire Sprites
.88 4 Fog
.1039 4 Foratog
.89 4 Force of Nature
.1042 4 Fyndhorn Elder
.1293 4 Fyndhorn Elves
.90 2 Forcefield
.94 4 Fungusaur

Force of nature is such a Force, also AI often fell in my fog traps so that helped alot.

I've tested some other decks and M was great but game crashed on 7th round and G is ok, a bit slow coz of the lands but powerfull

.164 6 Mountain
.508 4 Mishra's Factory
.510 4 Mishra's Workshop
.157 1 Mana Vault
.1230 2 Masticore
.466 4 Memnite
.1900 1 Memory Jar
.1384 4 Metallic Sliver
.1775 4 Mind Stone
.453 3 Molten-Tail Masticore
.1279 4 Moonglove Extract
.457 1 Mox Diamond
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet

.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.586 3 Myr Battlesphere
.1548 4 Myr Enforcer
.606 4 Myr Galvanizer
.840 2 Myr Incubator

I don't remember the exact list, but I used white weenie to beat it. I picked mostly stuff with banding, first strike, or flying. If memory serves, Thunder Spirit was the best card in the deck :p It took me a lot of tries to win that one.

I think white weenie is the only viable deck.

Here are the only (I think) 15 white cards from constructed that don't require coding.

Ekundu Griffin
Elite Vanguard
Indomitable Ancients
Leonin Skyhunter
Longbow Archer
Mistral Charger
Moorish Cavalry
Pikemen
Razorfoot Griffin
Savannah Lions
Suntail Hawk
Teremko Griffin
Thunder Spirit
Tundra Wolves
Wild Griffin

I could see splashing for Phantom Monster and Roc of Kehr Ridges
