deck limit?

Postby scythe000 » 03 May 2009, 02:11

I installed the DOTP rip, and the latest manalink, and a few deck sets that peeps uploaded. Everything works fine, b ut only some of the decks show up when I try to do a solo duel. I have 188 decks in the Playdeck folder. I can see the missing decks if I delete some decks. Does anyone know what the deck limit is or if there's a way to extend it? Thanks!

Some reasons a deck might will not be included: (might be more I haven't thought of)

-the latest manalink is not installed, and the deck has a newer card(s) (though you say you have the latest one)
-the deck is larger than 499 total cards (deck size) or has more than 200 differently named cards
-the deck was edited with a text editor and includes something that is not a legal card, i.e. typos
-the decks are not in the right directory (playdeck is where they should be)

I have way more decks than 188, so that isn't the problem.

How can I verify my manalink edition?

I installed the one from here:
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=1130
april 28th 2009 edition.

On top of the 2.01 edition form here:
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=898

The decks are from this board, I have all the latest art installed, but they still seem to be randomly not showing up. Attached to this reply is one called 'affinity'. This one loads fine in the deck editor, but won't show up for solo duel. Just remove the .zip from the filename, it's really a .dck file.

All the decks are in the 'PlayDeck' folder, too.

Thanks for the quick reply, tho! :D

If the deck show up in the deck editor and not in the solo duel mode, there is a typo or invalid character in the DCK file setting (avoid too long name in the color note). In the worst case rebuild the deck with the deck editor from scratch and only change the name (don't change the default infos) before saving.

Aha, you may be right.

Here's the text of the afinity.dck:

I bet it's those (null) references. The odd thing is, I got the decks from the forums here. I presume they were working for them. Any body know who Broussaud or geraudb_99@yahoo.com is? He's the author, maybe he knows.

This seems to be a deck with custom cards or cards added from a newer version of manalink than its current, thus the null bug.

I don't remember getting this deck from here, here is the one I got :

The first deck has cards not implemented yet, like Rainbow Vale and Golgothian Sylex ,and a couple others. The other two should work, I think.

Ahaa...so, why would people be posting decks on here that have cards which do not yet exist in Manalink? Bizarre.

With anyone able to create new cards with the community card editor the original poster might have created some of his own and forgot to post them as an update...

See, even the stickies are too disorganized and cluttered. We need a sticky, at the top, titled 'required files' or something like that. It should be locked, contain one post and only contain a rip of the game, the latest manalink files and any support files (card art?). This'll save a lot of headaches and confusion. In fact, we can bundle the files (minus the game rip, which never changes) together and call it something like 'Manalink total pack 1.0'. that way, we can have some more consistent naming. That, or we can mimic Ubuntu's naming system, i.e. year.month.revision, so this one would be say 2.95r1. I say 2.x to start with, because people might get confused as to why 1.95r1 is newer than 2.01.

This is not an update problem, the original poster might have had the latest update then created his own cards and posted his deck including his own cards. Don't forget that there are people that know how to make cards but can't put it as a main update because you need to take into account all the update files including the csv(and also a main update is supposed to fix bugs of previous cards)

The latest update is always on the top sticky so there is no problem on this side, there is also the wiki which tell which programmer is working on the next major update.

We had been working on an all in on CD distro for the game that would take it to a certain point in the update process, which then could be added to whenever new cards came out via "packs of cards". The idea was to make it an all in one download.

We have been testing it, but there has been nothing new on it for a while now. Also, until if & when the 2000 card limit is broken, all future additions of cards are obviously on hold for now.

Too much had been changed and added via bug fixes and new card additions over the last few months to make what your talking about work. Believe me, if you search the site, you'll see numerous threads of how Huggy and I called for a better ordered chain of command to regulate these changes, but it just didn't work out. Folks like us who aren't programmers can't do any more about that. It is what it is!

So, what we have, for now, is where it is. Not the best choice, but it will have to do for now. Hopefully, we'll see some movement on this over the Summer months. [-o<

Stay tuned...!

Thanks for the reply, Bog Wraith!

I'm just overjoyed that this is happening at all. Now, if only I could get a M:TG game with AI on my Windows Mobile phone, I would be in heaven :-).
