Fetch lands, might be something I would tweak, but Bloodghast, not for me. Not real keen on the 10 life for Haste stipulation. I like the way the deck works for now. The Krovikan Horror's might be rotated out in a different version, but I like their flexibility in dealing direct damage to sacking, and the fact that they, along with the ghoul & shadow, keep the conveyor going.

However, I will test the deck with the two changes you posted and chart the differences in speed, turns and efficiency.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
(EDIT)

After play testing the deck for a day, I will leave the land as is. I have not had any problems at all with mana development, (a result of having 24 lands in the deck!) and I see no reason to use fetch lands like Bloodstained Mire & take a Life hit when Dragonskull Summit only needs either a Swamp or Mountain in play, which is almost guaranteed, for it to come into play ready to be used right away. I also prefer it to Rakdos Carnarium which demands a land be returned to your hand and comes into play tapped.

I could see maybe testing this deck with some Crypt of Agadeem as the very nature of this recursion deck plays right into this land's strength.
The only other land I might consider for this deck would be Reflecting Pool, especially for early game needs.
So far, this deck has really impressed me with it's mana production & it's non stop creature presence and also the flexibility to answer other deck's threats. We all know that all decks have their weaknesses, and this deck is no exception, but it is a good, tough deck to beat and is a blast to play!

I´ve build something very simmilar today :

.779 4 Sedraxis Specter
.747 4 Extractor Demon
.258 3 Underground Sea
.266 2 Volcanic Island
.9 4 Badlands
.1489 4 Bloodstained Mire
.778 4 Rotting Rats
.838 4 Burning Inquiry
.738 4 Krovikan Horror
.753 4 Ashen Ghoul
.1088 4 Bloodghast
.773 4 Hell's Thunder
.398 4 Bazaar of Baghdad
.881 4 Hellspark Elemental
.12 3 Bayou
.1968 4 Lord of Extinction

Been toying around with the last 4 cardslots . Had Victimize // Gravepact in there instead of Lord of Extinction (its a fun card). Would suggest replacing it with Tarmogoyf (very nice synergy with the rest of the deck), " Hatred "could work too (manabase would be too slow for it to matter though).

It is a bit too slow vs "good" Swarm strategies but usually very strong against long term strategies.

I love the interaction between Rotting Rats and Bloodghast.Extractor Deamon can hit hard very early if you unearth it.
Bazaar + Burning Inquiry should speed things up.

---

.929 4 Wall of Denial
.1814 4 Wall of Reverence
.273 4 Wall of Swords
.1757 4 Plumeveil
.807 3 Ajani Goldmane
.17 1 Black Lotus
.230 1 Sol Ring
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.726 2 Moat
.289 2 Luminarch Ascension
.969 2 Rolling Stones
.349 4 Enlightened Tutor
.1 1 Ancestral Recall
.499 1 Brainstorm
.249 1 Time Walk
.254 4 Tundra
.1488 4 Flooded Strand
.126 5 Island
.694 1 Karakas
.188 5 Plains
.528 1 Strip Mine

Rolling Stones (wall deck).
Enlightened Tutor is pretty much the key here. Fetch Moat early if needed or Rolling Stones / Luminarch Ascension to win.
Ajani + Wall of Reverence can be a funny combo once you get the Avatar (note : once you got 30k life the avatar destroys itself ^^).

---

.659 4 Keiga, the Tide Star
.644 4 Sower of Temptation
.824 4 Negate
.720 4 Mana Drain
.1717 4 Force of Will
.1618 4 Mulldrifter
.17 1 Black Lotus
.230 1 Sol Ring
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.1 1 Ancestral Recall
.499 1 Brainstorm
.249 1 Time Walk
.735 4 Telling Time
.1831 2 Meloku the Clouded Mirror
.1488 4 Flooded Strand
.1487 4 Polluted Delta
.126 11 Island
.317 1 Tolarian Academy

Simple Control Deck that should get you to the lategame usually.
Pretty straight forward to play . 12 counter are more than enough to protect yourself from the most common threats or to protect your Creatures.
Could add a Vedalken Shackles or 2 in there if you feel you need them.

---

.1815 4 Master Transmuter
.653 4 Darksteel Colossus
.1520 4 Inkwell Leviathan
.1706 4 Master of Etherium
.1879 4 Etherium Sculptor
.322 3 Fabricate
.1 1 Ancestral Recall
.499 1 Brainstorm
.249 1 Time Walk
.17 1 Black Lotus
.230 1 Sol Ring
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.510 4 Mishra's Workshop
.1216 4 Seat of the Synod
.1912 2 Crucible of Worlds
.1728 4 Wasteland
.528 1 Strip Mine
.126 8 Island
.1207 4 Solemn Simulacrum

Still a lot room for improvements here . The idea is to get out a Master Transmuter and use its ability to trade a ingame Mox or Artifact Land vs a Darksteel Colossus or Inkwell Leviathan.
I suggest to add a playset Juggernauts for better early pressure.

A very interesting mix of decks to try Salbei! I will do just that over the next few days and I'll post my thoughts and results. I'm really keen to try them!

Here's a new deck I've been testing. A nice fast White Weenie slap fest for Extended play:

;White Weenie_Extended
;W
;Paul Rietzl & Bog Wraith
;no@spam.com
;08/01/2010
;1
;4th Edition
;Rietzl won Extended tournament with similar deck on MTGO, although Mutavault is missing & Umezawas Jitte is locked !

.1933 4 Figure of Destiny
.913 4 Steppe Lynx
.1239 3 Isamaru, Hound of Konda
.588 4 Path to Exile
.1562 4 Honor of the Pure
.1414 4 Knight of Meadowgrain
.1825 3 Soltari Priest
.1935 4 Kitchen Finks
.1453 4 Spectral Procession
.880 1 Emeria, The Sky Ruin
.1625 4 Marsh Flats
.984 4 Arid Mesa
.188 11 Plains
.1721 2 Kjeldoran Outpost
.1833 4 Sword of Fire and Ice

Nice n' fast deck, the Steppe Lynx really benift from the 8 fetch lands when timed right. The other card that is really interesting here is the Figure of Destiny which you can do a lot of fine tuning with "on the fly"! I always like when I can drop a few Kitchen Finks on the table as they always prove to be a pain in the ass for your opponent to have to deal with. Kinda like the guest who never knows when to leave! Also, the Spectal Procession is a really nice way to get 3 flyers out all at once.

The rest of the deck is self explanatory, although I want to point out that i had to make 2 changes to the deck. Originally, this deck has 2 Mutavault in it which is not available to us, and it also contains 4 Umezawas Jitte but those are Challenge locked cards.
I chose to substitute the Jitte with 4 Sword of Fire and Ice as they are comparable, if not in their method, but IMO, in their effect & efficency, from the card pool we have and it is also qualified for the current Extended card pool qualificatrion being from Dark Steel. The only card that doesn't meets this standard is Kjeldoran Outpost from Alliances. I chose this land as it works of White mana and produces a creature generation effect somewhat, but no doubt more lasting, then the Mutavault. If I could pick a land similar to the Mutavault if it was available would probably be Stallking Stones thought the activation cost is MUCH higher then the vault.

Anyway, have at it and as always, comments & your tweaks suggestions are always welcome!

-------------------------------------------
(EDIT)

Can't figure out why the card ID highlight function isn't working for me this time. I posted the info as I always do & I'm stumped. :? I've tried a few things but nothing works. Sorry about that!

I just use Mishra's Factory whenever an online deck has Mutavault in the list. Unless the deck is theme-based, it's just as good or better.

suggestions:

The Deck is designed around a balanced route between real good early pressure against any kind of deck + should have a very good mathchup against other creature based strategies.(lots of evasion , very cost efficient creatures/cards, last but not least a good portion of lifegain).

Keeping this in mind my changes to your list would look like this:

-4 Sword of Fire and Ice
It is too mana-intensive and to clumsy during the very important first turns , gonna cost you speed.
Keep in mind Jitte was just in there as a 4off to destroy the Jitte of the opponent since it is a legendary .4x the same equipment is overkill in general, especially ones that cost 3mana+ to play.
Chances are high you will get 2 of them during the first 5 turns. The manacurve is slight above 2 in the deck so you can´t play it relyable at a cost of 3.

-2 Kjeldoran Outpost
Again , taking away your speed in a "weenie / swarm" deck is a bad idea. It is a great card for the lategame - but you want to avoid that phase of the game.

Figure of Destiny is a great "lategame" finisher and should be enough. Most of the games going to be won via Evasion Creatures (Shadow / Flying) while the lifelink Knight / Finks lock the ground and provide a good board position. At least that is what i think when i see the list.

-1 Emeria
Same again , bumps your speed - you don´t ever want to see a "comes into play tapped" land during the first 3 turns.you got so many 1 and 2 mana spells to get a reliable curve.
Once again , a great card for the lategame - but you prolly lost the game already by the point you got 7 plains + this land out. Would definatly cut it. Like i said earlier , the deck is designed around 2 CC spells - so it doesn´t have that much land (cause it doesn´t need it) and thus it would be ~round 15 or something when you got the 8 required lands out. Would be a total different thing in a deck that evolves around Baneslayer Angel / Wall of Reverance etc (lots of 4CC+ spells).

+3 Bonesplitter /or/ Jitte (if it is unlocked)
+1 Soltari Priest (evasion!)

+3(maybe 4) Fetchlands
You got the lifegain to support the lifeloss + you can almost guarantee 2x landfall for the Steppe Lynx.

Thanks for reposting my deck list Salbei, not sure what the heck was wrong.

I like some of your suggestions and I will of course play test with them, but also keep in mind that we are playing these decks against the AI and "speed wins" don't count for the same thing as they would in real life MTG. Besides, I'm not one who looks for every deck to win asap. I like control decks, and I also like working one's like this that aren't, so speed wins is not a priority of mine. If I was playing in a tournament or Grand Prix, that's a different story. Playing MTG on ManaLink vs. the AI is not indicative of real MTG, so I stopped approaching deck building in that way for this purpose a long time ago. In fact, I rarely ever make speed decks for the quick win no matter what form of MTG I play, preferring to go for the control type game that takes time to develop.

Also, remember that this deck minus the 2 changes I had to make, won the MTGO Extended tournament a while back which had allot of players with a few different deck types and beat them all. That's pretty good!
Now, I'm not a big fan of MTGO because of the pricing, but it still does attract a hefty number of players from around the world so this deck did beat some good players.

And as I said, I picked the Kjeldoran Outpost because I wanted to have something comparable to the vault & I thought as aww1979 pointed out, of using Mishra's but I wanted to try the Outposts. Part of the fun of ManaLink is using cards in ways & in decks you might not otherwise even think of.

Another really fun & cool part is reading what you guys have to say & your suggestions AND the back & forth between us as we discuss the why's & wherefores.

I love your input gentlemen. Thank you for continuing to do so! =D>

.345 4 Lin Sivvi, Defiant Hero
.332 4 Ramosian Sergeant

.336 4 Ramosian Captain
.389 4 Whipcorder
.383 4 Thermal Glider

.632 3 Umezawa's Jitte
.694 1 Karakas
.188 18 Plains
.17 1 Black Lotus
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.230 1 Sol Ring

It doesn't look like much, but I won 19 games in a row in my gauntlet. There's a good reason Lin Sivvi got banned in block constructed. Add the brokenness of Jitte and Ajani, and it's actually a pretty good deck. The lack of any real removal besides Jitte counters proved a problem in game 20, and I got roflstomped by an early Juzam Djinn and Juggernaut.

mmm... keeper... 38 wins in a row in gauntlet, until it crashed against a dredge deck when AI tried to bring back Ichorid. Braingeyser, the second Decree of Justice, and maybe Duress are cards I'd consider switching for something else; suggestions welcome. I played 'honest' with Cunning Wish, i.e. no grabbing FoW #5 or Ancestral Recall #2, etc. (I have no such qualms in challenge mode though!) The targets I can remember using, multiple times, were Divine Offering, Army of Allah (seriously; after Decree of Justice I took this more than once!), Berserk (on DSC with Mox Emerald or Lotus to cast it), Last Gasp (only once, to clear the way for DSC). Other spells I kept in mind to grab, but never did, were Disenchant, Diabolic Edict, Echoing Truth, Pact of Negation.

Re: Share your decks in .dck form

Postby Salbei » 07 Mar 2010, 22:49

well well - tons of new cards to play with - unfortunatly i got very little time to play at the moment so here are a couple decks with the new cards.

.933 4 Scute Mob
.87 4 Dragonmaster Outcast
.1470 4 Sakura-Tribe Elder
.1538 4 Farhaven Elf
.646 4 Bloodbraid Elf
.1171 2 Beastmaster Ascension
.91 8 Forest
.164 6 Mountain
.1474 4 Wooded Foothills
.241 2 Taiga
.802 4 Garruk Wildspeaker
.625 4 Sarkhan Vol
.299 4 Blood Moon
.626 2 Stampeding Wildebeest
.1124 4 Rampant Growth

This "casual" deck was designed for the AI. It should be able to play it since its very straight forward with very few opportunities to misplay things.Nothing too special to play on your own though.
The original idea was to get out 5-6 lands for Scute Mob / Dragonmaster Outcast and just draw quality during the mid/lategame.The very sloppy design suffers from the usual problem of drawing too much junk when you don´t need it.I thought all the land thinning would help - but then you just draw into land-fetchers instead of a land :/

No removal in this one and just Blood Moon as the only disruption. In the first version there where a couple Meekstones in there aswell - but the AI is just going to screw itself with it - so i was looking for a replacement.
While setting this up i´ve stumbled upon Stampeeding Wildebeasts which should come in handy with Bloodbraid Elf / Farhaven Elf - not a horribly good replacement but better than nothing.
I´m not that happy with the deck as it is, but i guess its alright to have the AI play it in a gauntlet.
The nature of these kinda decks is almost always very simple to play,so at least you won´t get a headache doing the math :D
---

.654 4 Leyline of the Void
.1 1 Ancestral Recall
.1618 4 Mulldrifter
.1944 2 Shriekmaw
.293 2 Tombstone Stairwell
.805 2 Altar of Dementia
.62 1 Demonic Tutor
.333 1 Vampiric Tutor
.1733 4 Tarmogoyf
.17 1 Black Lotus
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.230 1 Sol Ring
.1689 1 Flametongue Kavu
.646 4 Bloodbraid Elf
.258 3 Underground Sea
.9 3 Badlands
.12 3 Bayou
.1489 4 Bloodstained Mire
.1487 4 Polluted Delta
.642 2 Volrath Stronghold
.249 1 Time Walk
.1924 1 Recurring Nightmare
.1223 3 Eternal Witness
.1935 1 Kitchen Finks
.1040 1 Woodfall Primus
.370 1 Hermit Druid

I won´t say too much about this one.I´ve toyed around with Tombstone Stairwell (along with Altar of Dementia) - a surprisingly strong combo.(you will get 2/2 haste tokens for each creatures in eachothers graveyard during EACH upkeep.Leyline should keep the opponents token count very slim.so the first activation is during the opponents upkeep, use the altar to mill yourself to increase the tokens you will get during your own turn. Then either swing for the win or mill the opponent during your turn)

The first shell was a mono-black weenie deck. I soon found out you only have to pay the cummulative upkeep once to end the game so i tried a couple different "shells".
This version is pretty "controlish".
Volrath Stronghold is recyling your creatures for a stable board position untill you can get the combo off (can also be used to recycle Eternal Witness to establish a Time Walk lock).Just toy around with the deck and adjust it for your needs. It didn´t do too bad in my Gauntlet.
Fun to play for a couple games but i doubt the AI is going to do the correct activations.

.105 4 Illusionary Mask
.104 4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
.1698 4 Survival of the Fittest
.1925 2 Squee, Goblin Nabob
.1223 2 Eternal Witness
.1162 1 Hua Tuo, Honored Physician
.1474 4 Wooded Foothills
.12 2 Bayou
.1723 4 Dark Confidant
.684 1 Golgari Grave-Troll
.370 1 Hermit Druid
.642 1 Volrath Stronghold
.1849 1 Anger
.241 3 Taiga
.620 1 Countryside Crusher
.680 1 Stinkweed Imp
.1489 4 Bloodstained Mire
.9 2 Badlands
.1 1 Ancestral Recall
.249 1 Time Walk
.252 2 Tropical Island
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.62 1 Demonic Tutor
.628 4 Accumulated Knowledge
.15 4 Birds of Paradise

This one is fun to play.Lots of interactions going on - really dunno where to start.
Use survival of the fittest to get a squee (usually just need one since the deck is pretty fast) and use the squee to get whatever creature you need (usually Anger next) into dreadnoughts.
Play a couple of the 12/12 trampling dreadnoughts (for 1 via the Mask, and with survival of the fittest you can fetch his buddies for only one G). A couple "random" card choices in there aswell - feel free to adjust.
Watch out for Swords to Plowshares / Path to Exile ^^
Retired a long time ago. I will not reply.

Re: Share your decks in .dck form

Don't know if it matters, but the following decks all are for the Custom version.

Code: Select all
;- Red Deck Wins v1
;Red
;Tap2Sacrifice
;
;21/02/2010
;1
;4th Edition
;mana curve, weenie, burn

.1727   2   Price of Progress
.1406   2   Pillage
.145   4   Lightning Bolt
.1254   4   Incinerate
.593   4   Chain Lightning
.1163   4   Goblin Guide
.1263   3   Spark Elemental
.1354   3   Mogg Fanatic
.1298   4   Blood Knight
.1477   4   Slith Firewalker
.1184   4   Viashino Sandstalker
.1595   2   Wildfire Emissary
.1830   4   Barbarian Ring
.1489   4   Bloodstained Mire
.1728   4   Wasteland
.164   6   Mountain
.133   2   Hammer of Bogardan
I love mono-red, and I always have. It's hard for me to exactly tell why I love it, but maybe it's mono-red's beauty of simplicity. Turn 1: Mountain, Goblin Guide, attack; turn 2: mountain, Slith Firewalker, attack; and so on.

Code: Select all
;- Speedy Gonzales
;Red/Green
;Tap2Sacrifice
;
;02/03/2010
;1
;4th Edition
;hasted creatures, burn, winter orb

.1163   4   Goblin Guide
.1122   4   Raging Goblin
.1263   4   Spark Elemental
.1477   4   Slith Firewalker
.1367   4   Rip-Clan Crasher
.593   4   Chain Lightning
.1668   4   Fists of the Anvil
.97   4   Giant Growth
.145   4   Lightning Bolt
.1096   2   Naturalize
.1681   4   Rancor
.287   4   Winter Orb
.165   1   Mox Emerald
.168   1   Mox Ruby
.241   4   Taiga
.1474   4   Wooded Foothills
.921   4   Rootbound Crag
Named after and inspired by Speedy Gonzales, "the fastest mouse in all Mexico", all 20 creatures are cheap (combined casting cost of only 1 or 2) and have Haste. In fact, nothing in this deck costs more than 2, which is the reason for only 12 lands; 4 of them are fetch-lands (Wooded Foothills), and the remaining ones can procude both R and G. An (early) Winter Orb locks the opponent's mana, and with only three mana sources (either three lands, or one mox plus one land) you can keep casting and pumping your creatures.

Code: Select all
;- Honden of Annoyance
;Black/Blue/Green
;Tap2Sacrifice
;
;24/02/2010

;4th Edition
;discard, card advantage, token creatures, combo

.997   4   Coercion
.1846   4   Duress
.1748   2   Honden of Night's Reach
.1747   2   Honden of Life's Web
.1457   4   Hymn to Tourach
.117   4   Hypnotic Specter
.808   2   Liliana Vess
.1096   2   Naturalize
.1745   2   Honden of Seeing Winds
.1621   2   Jace, the Mind Sculptor
.1355   2   Morphling
.165   1   Mox Emerald
.166   1   Mox Jet
.169   1   Mox Sapphire
.1455   4   Remand
.1078   4   Mana Leak
.12   4   Bayou
.258   4   Underground Sea
.1876   3   Reflecting Pool
.923   4   Drowned Catacomb
.403   2   City of Brass
.1605   2   Creeping Tar Pit
This one isn't really a serious deck, and it definitely isn't competitive - but it's fun. Well, it's fun if you get all three Honden out early to make your opponent discard 3 cards each turn, to draw 3 cards yourself, and to put 3 1/1 token creatures into play. It generally gets owned really badly by fast beatdown decks because it lacks a sufficient number of blockers (only 4 Hypnotic Specters and 2 Morphlings), and it has no removal/burn.

.1   1   Ancestral Recall
.169   1   Mox Sapphire
.249   1   Time Walk
.48   4   Counterspell
.1353   2   Dismiss
.1717   3   Force of Will
.1449   4   Impulse
.64   3   Disenchant
.240   4   Swords to Plowshares
.165   1   Mox Emerald
.166   1   Mox Jet
.167   1   Mox Pearl
.290   4   Wrath of God
.202   1   Regrowth
.62   1   Demonic Tutor
.25   1   Braingeyser
.114   2   Howling Mine
.503   2   Ivory Tower
.140   2   Library of Leng
.127   2   Island Sanctuary
.628   4   Accumulated Knowledge
.254   4   Tundra
.258   4   Underground Sea
.252   4   Tropical Island
.806   1   The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale
.528   1   Strip Mine
.495   1   Feldon's Cane
Well... I don't really know what to say about this deck except that it's hard to play and even harder to win with. It's basically a combo deck that relies on the synergy of four cards:

1. Howling Mine to eventually deck your opponent, or at least to make him draw enough cards so you can deck him with a massive Braingeyser.

2. Island Sanctuary servers two purposes: the first and more obvious one is to prevent your opponent from attacking you with creatures that don't have either Islandwalk or Flying, and the second is prevent decking yourself with your own Howling Mine.

3. Ivory Tower lets you gain (desperately needed) Life - simple enough.

4. Library of Leng allows you to gain huge amounts of Life with Ivory Tower (I once finished a game with 350+ Life), and prevents having to discard counterspells and removals you might need later.

The hard part is getting all four cards into play before you die, but once you have them, you just sit back and use counter/removal until your opponent depletes his Library.

;- Counter Burn

.48   4   Counterspell
.1353   2   Dismiss
.1840   2   Forbid
.1717   4   Force of Will
.720   4   Mana Drain
.145   4   Lightning Bolt
.1254   4   Incinerate
.75   4   Earthquake
.1176   2   Treasure Trove
.312   4   Ponder
.266   4   Volcanic Island
.1981   4   Scalding Tarn
.164   3   Mountain
.126   5   Island
.1654   2   Izzet Boilerworks
.628   4   Accumulated Knowledge
.133   4   Hammer of Bogardan
One of my few more competitive decks, the concept is very simple: establish battlefield control via counterspells and burn, build up card advantage, and finally keep smacking your opponent with ever-returning Hammer of Bogardan once you've got enough mana on the table. Just beware of decks with lots of flyers.

Here some legacy Fun Decks.
I don't think they are really competitive, however, I win majority of games with. I'm playing versus a gauntlet of legacy decks I found on this forum.

Play creatures with "come into play" effect, and come back it in the hand later for replay.
It's agro-control.
It beat zoo, gobelin, etc.
Shivan Wurm is really powerful !

Progenitus : give me a victory against an abyss'deck
Decks need optimisation, probably adding one disenchant and eternel witness. But I don't know what remove.
