Collectible Card Game Headquarters

First I want to preface this with a disclaimer. I don't really know what sets are legal and what sets aren't anymore. That said, this deck only has four of any given card unlike most of the others that claim kills that quickly. I'm actually pretty certain you can get a first turn kill with it, as well, but I haven't done so yet.

For thos saying, "Whoa, that breaks about fifty rules!", ok, just let me know what they are. I'm certain I can work within the rules on this one without lessening it's impact to badly.

Hehe, yeah based on that decklist, you haven't seen a restricted list since about 1993 :p (Heck, even the first restricted list had p9 on it, hehe) Anyway, Black Lotus, Mox Sapphire, Lotus Petal, Sol Ring, Time Walk, Timetwister, Ancestral Recall and Mystical Tutor are all restricted to one copy per deck each But yes, a first turn kill is definitely possible with this; my Shandalar decks end up something like this by the endgame, only they usually involve Black Vise instead of creatures.

edit: Oh, and it's also not legal because minimum deck size is 60 now, not 40, and this is 58.

pack all the 4-of restricted cards you have there into a deck and it doesn't really matter how you kill. throw in some random duals, red moxes, cut the creatures and kill with Lightning Bolt.

I guess the 2 Sol Ring is a typo and it is supposed to be 4.

PS: as for the disclaimer, restricted lists as was pointed out above, easily acessible if you want them. wizards of the coast have a decent website you can check up on that over there if you want to.

this is your deck as a legal type I deck, btw, to save you the bother of looking up the restricted lists. you have 26 cards. you need another 34.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be posting a legal version rather quicklike. As to the deck size, I made it 58 cards on purpose, as I didn't know they had changed the minimum deck size. That's easily remidied, though.

Mystical Tutor is restricted? Did not see that coming. That has to be one of the silliest restrictions of all time. I'd restrict Lord of Atlantis before the tutor. Heck, white, green, and black all have similar cards for similar casting prices. Now that I think about it, there is a colorless version, too. Are they all restricted?

Vampiric Tutor is the one from that cycle that is also restricted.

reason for Mystical Tutor being restricted is that it fetches so many (other) restricted cards like Ancestral Recall, Timetwister, Tinker, Yawgmoth's Will, etc., and is otherwise just so darn useful.

I can see the vamp getting restricted, it fetches anything. The Mystical, just like all it's clones, is more restrictive. For One mana you can go get a sorcery or instant. The other versions are just as useful for thier colors.

Blue = One sorcery or instant
Green = Creature
White = Creature or enchantment
Black = Anything, but have to pay 2 life
Red = I don't know if red has one, actually
Colorless = Any artifact

The cards that allow you to clone or duplicate other cards abillities are far more powerful than tutors. A tutor can get that Ancestral Recall quicker, sure, but fork or doublecast lets you cast five of them in a row.

well there isn't a colourless tutor, the white one already fetches artifacts.

what you have to think about as far as these tutors go is card-advantage you search for one specific card and you sacrifice one card to get it. sure, the green one can get a creature. it can get the most broken creature ever printed. you still get one card and you have to cast it. Summoner's Pact does that for free and it usually gets Protean Hulk for the combo win (with the restricted instant Flash which you can use Mystical Tutor for to find it) and not in order to beat down with it. Enlightened Tutor is actually pretty decent in some decks but you will still need to cast the card you searched for in most cases, unlike "cheating" it into play via the restricted Tinker (a target for Mystical Tutor) or Show and Tell.

instants and sorceries sometimes break that 1 card for 1 card rule (like Tinker way back when you could run 4 of them, Memory Jar, Yawgmoth's Will, Lion's Eye Diamond etc) or are essential in quite a few combo decks. so restricting a card that is able to find the most broken cards is not unreasonable. but, hey, you can run 4 Personal Tutor. maybe that'll help.

Lord of Atlantis does not deserve restricting basically every card in T1 that is restricted is because it either fuels combo decks too much, or its just insanely good.

Ancestral Recall is by far the most powerful card draw spell ever printed. So they restricted it, it helps any blue deck and every blue deck would run more then 1 copy if they could.

Mystical Tutor is more of a niche card a lot of T1 decks dont' want it but it can help combo decks a lot so they restricted it.

Lord of Atlantis is just a 2/2 merfolk for 2 sure he pumps your dudes but in T1 games are over very quickly especially if you have the full library of magic cards available like you do in real magic.

Yes I remember inquest or scrye years ago did top 10 list of best cards ever at the time, ancestral recall was 1st with Library of Alexandria a close 2nd cause of how strong ancestral is at any point in game.

I think Library of Alexandria lost most of his power. First you no longer gets to draw if you go first, and second, the game is now too fast for it to work well (and, it's quite incompatible with Force of Will since it drops you two cards from your hand, which means two turns before you can library again).

Really, in my opinion, both Library and Time Walk do not deserve the "Power X" moniker any more. Tolarian Academy and Yawgmoth's Will deserve the moniker much much more.
