A Tale of Two Decks

Postby aww1979 » 12 May 2010, 22:25

These are the two decks I did not include in the May tournament gauntlet, because two other contestants built very similar decks.

;vintage aww1979 baneslayer

;1
;4th Edition
;

.1585 4 Baneslayer Angel
.240 4 Swords to Plowshares
.588 4 Path to Exile
.1414 4 Knight of Meadowgrain
.581 4 Soul Warden
.1562 4 Honor of the Pure
.1453 4 Spectral Procession
.807 4 Ajani Goldmane
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.230 1 Sol Ring
.17 1 Black Lotus
.308 1 Crovax, Ascendant Hero
.876 4 Oblivion Ring
.528 1 Strip Mine
.1950 4 Windbrisk Heights
.188 14 Plains
.694 1 Karakas

Not much to say about this one. It's white weenie, with heavy removal (anticipating Zoo in the tournament) and a strong lifegain component. JuzamJedi's deck was even closer before he edited his submission, as he used to have Knight of Meadowgrain and Windbrisk Heights, too :p

;4th Edition
;

.1733 4 Tarmogoyf
.1936 4 Knight of Reliquary
.1949 4 Wilt-Leaf Liege*
.6 3 Armageddon
.240 4 Swords to Plowshares
.1804 4 Noble Hierarch
.1861 4 Qasali Pridemage
.1297 4 Watchwolf
.212 4 Savannah
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.230 1 Sol Ring
.17 1 Black Lotus
.528 1 Strip Mine
.1473 4 Windswept Heath
.91 5 Forest
.188 5 Plains
.1972 4 Mystic Enforcer
.710 1 Land Tax
.10 1 Balance

Having someone duplicate my white weenie deck was no surprise, but my jaw was on the floor when not only did enigma73 submit a tarmogeddon deck, but he *named* it the same thing I named mine! :p I was a bit sad, since this is the one deck of the three I made that I had the most fun playing, but at least I'll get to use enigma's version, which despite the name, actually has a number of significant differences.

edit: if Mystic Enforcer is locked for you, Loxodon Hierarch or Baneslayer Angel are probably the closest substitutes for the theme I was going for here.

I forgot about watchwolf, thats better than the lions. 1 loxodon over a lion is worth it too, although i dont recall AI ever using its regen ability, but awesome combo with wrath if it does.

Mystic enforcer (i have it unlocked) is a funny one, I forgot about that too cause I got it mixed up with mystic remora on my printed out challenge list. I clearly should have looked at the gold cards a little more throughly.

I debating on submitting this deck over one other choice, but i do believe its gonna throw a wrench into the mix, even if it doesn't make top 3.

Well, you can't regenerate from Wrath of God (it buries creatures, preventing regeneration) but you can regenerate off of stuff like Day of Judgment or Nevinyrral's Disk, since they just destroy creatures. Mystic Enforcer was picked because with threshold it can take on baneslayer and win, plus it has protection black. I tried to stick with gold creatures, since wilt-leaf liege pumps them +2/+2 if they are white and green, so no baneslayer were in my list.

good eye on wraths wording, forgot about that fine detail.

Back in the day I never played ernie-geddon much I was a necropotence practioner myself but I always admired its control proficiency, the deck was such a monster in type 2 that Alliances release came out with Dystopia at the time to curb its prowess. You can believe I had 3-4 in my sideboard after that set was released (Armageddon = no mana for drain life).

Anyways it was fun resurrecting the ernie-geddon deck 13 years later for this tournament.

My first choice for the tournament was actually white weenie (also with Conqueror's Pledge), but I gave up on the idea when the AI refused to play Crusade without creatures in play, and almost never played Worship.

I had to dig this list out of my recycling bin, since apparently I burned the deck after giving up on the AI :)

.1585 4 Baneslayer Angel
.17 1 Black Lotus
.991 2 Chastise
.27 4 Conqueror's Pledge
.308 1 Crovax, Ascendant Hero
.51 4 Crusade
.1562 4 Honor of the Pure
.167 1 Mox Pearl
.168 1 Mox Ruby
.169 1 Mox Sapphire
.165 1 Mox Emerald
.166 1 Mox Jet
.230 1 Sol Ring
.1453 4 Spectral Procession
.240 4 Swords to Plowshares
.1192 2 Worship
.1451 4 Raise the Alarm
.188 20 Plains
