The Gauntlet

Postby RanDomino » 31 May 2012, 18:24

Since completing most of the challenges (damn you, Magic: The Puzzling!), I've been running 50-opponent gauntlets and seeing how far I can get before losing (or crashing). So I'm trying to refine my Playdeck folder to include a lot of different decks that the AI can run fairly decently, with a few restrictions (such as as few blatantly unfair cards like Black Lotus as possible). Also I want to have a TON of different ones, so I go a long time before repetition. And I try to update them when a new patch comes out, but it's obviously hard with potentially hundreds of decks.

Making decks that the AI can run and that aren't awful isn't that hard, but making a lot that aren't just dumb creature decks is. Also, reducing redundancy while maintaining quality is tough; the decks should be challenging but they don't have to be The Best Deck That the AI Can Have.

Anyway, attached is my Playdeck folder. If you have built decks for the AI, such as for forum tournaments, please post them and/or any advice.

- Remove the Shandalar decks, even updated it's been 20 years you play against them

- On the others side, you need to know if the new cards in your gauntlet deck are bugged or not : nothing more frustrating than crashing the game at the 49th step

- There are plentiful decks around, even cards without deck (mostly from Golden Age due to lack of combo), you have to test all of them in order to select the best of them.
I suggest starting from Orion79 promo decks since they use a lot of unused unpopular cards (hey, blame Wizards for selling them, everybody know their starter deck sucks... ), beware that there are many bugged cards since nobody play and report them.

- You could try the Challenge deck and the Tournament but beware that some are top popular deck and 2-3 kills turn, even for AI (yes, you Natural Order). In fact you need to create your own metagame in order to have something challenging, because playing wild on random deck is like playing on random MUGEN play and encounter Psycho Shredder.

- Don't use hexproofed creatures in your deck, because AI will crash the game trying to target it.
