Fun deck! Planeswalkers galore.

Postby Althuna » 14 Jul 2012, 03:34

I am always trying to make the most fun deck I can come up with, and I made this one last night and it's so great I thought I should share it. I try to not make decks that can win TOO easily because it gets boring, so I never use cards like Black Lotus etc, but this deck is still very powerful. The reason I shared it though, is because it has so many strange little synergistic interactions that I didn't expect. If you've never tried an all planeswalker deck, here goes!

.11110 2 Cultivate
.7824 3 Doubling Season
.10873 2 Awakening Zone
.1034 4 Fertile Ground
.2979 3 Gaea's Blessing
.10180 1 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
.9632 4 Prismatic Omen
.11402 1 Venser, the Sojourner
.9910 1 Ajani Vengeant
.9095 1 Chandra Nalaar
.9955 1 Elspeth, Knight-Errant
.11807 1 Garruk, Primal Hunter
.10933 1 Gideon Jura
.11821 1 Jace, Memory Adept
.11625 1 Karn Liberated
.11289 1 Koth of the Hammer
.12004 1 Liliana of the Veil
.10053 1 Sarkhan Vol
.10668 1 Sorin Markov
.12479 1 Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
.8906 4 Coalition Relic
.1243 4 Harmonize
.12 4 Bayou
.91 2 Forest
.1726 1 Golgari Rot Farm
.212 4 Savannah
.241 4 Taiga
.252 4 Tropical Island
.9300 1 Vivid Grove

I'm sure it could be improved but here's how it works and some fun tricks. It's basically most of the games planeswalkers, I just skipped a few I didn't want. I also only used one of each type so you get no issues with the legends rule and there is a lot of variety each time you play.

You can land accelerate nice and fast, and between all the land boosts and Prismatic Omen, very soon you can play whichever planeswalker shows up first. And with regular Harmonize and Gaea's Blessing drawing even more and bringing Harmonizes back, you get great card draw. Pretty soon you have a bunch of planeswalkers in play! It can still be very challenging and intersting to play, because as great as planeswalkers are, if your opponent keeps playing a creature each turn, you could be in trouble, and I put in no removal or counters so the planeswalkers have to take care of themselves.

Anyway the strange tricks I didn't expect, mostly come from the Venser, the Sojourner. Basically you can play most of the planeswalkers and use their biggest ability which usually takes them down to about +1 counter, but then you just bounce the planeswalker using Venser, the Sojourner and it's back to it's usual strength again. You can then use their special ability each turn.

It works great with all of them, but it is especially powerful with Karn Liberated because you can just use him to exile a permanent each turn and then bounce him and the exiled card is gone forever. Obviously Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is the best so it's hard to lose if you get him, but it's fun to play and see what happens.

Don't forget about proliferate, especially Tezzeret's Gambit, which you can play even if you don't find blue mana.

Cool thanks! I'll try that. I actually removed Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker because he makes things too easy heh. It's fun though, I like decks that are different each time you play.
