I too had felt this thread had run its course. If personal insults somehow make you feel better, then good for you. If you had taken the trouble to read my original posts completely, you will see I made it clear from the start that I have no issues with modding, in fact I fully support it. The sole issue was, and still is, that the mods are being used on the Steam game server to cheat, and other people are paying hard-earned money for the pleasure of being able to play the game fairly on the Steam server. The modders here could do very simple things to prevent their mods from working on Steam, and still have all the fun they want and use (or try to use, since it isn't going to work forever) the client offline. But the modders apparently can't be bothered to do that, so to me they are clearly pro-cheating, despite all their disclaimers to the contrary. If you actually tried to play the game on the Steam server (which I seriously doubt you have done), or looked at the litany of complaints posted on the Steam forums, you might gain a piece of a clue about what I'm saying. I really don't care if you choose to ridicule it instead.STARPOWER wrote:I'm new to these forums and i don't pretend to know anything about coding cards or modding or any of that...but from my very basic point of view i don't understand why you (captain video) take the time to write these sprawling monologues about how much trouble the modders are going to get into. They know and they accept the risk, just like anyone else who does things that skirt the boundaries of the law in order to have a little (or a lot) of fun. You have come here with a "high and mighty" approach, dispensing nuggets of knowledge to us simple folk, and it doesn't seem like you care about these people at all. This attitude (perceived, if not intentional) accompanied by your adversarial commentary, has effectively portrayed you as a figurehead/advocate for the very system all of their modding work seeks to circumvent. You might as well be beating you head against a wall, because your not going to change anyone's mind with your current method of argument.
Reflecting on my previous statement, maybe you should knock that skull of yours against something hard. You might get lucky and shake loose whatever part of your brain is responsible for your "i know whats best for everyone and must tell them so" philosophy.
The only reason Steam hasn't taken a more aggressive stance against this yet is because the client has some serious bugs which the developer (Stainless) so far refuses to fix; these bugs have generated even louder complaints from players than the cheat mods. In fact the only reason these mods are possible is because of major bugs in the client. I don't know at this point what's going to happen next. Steam may just turn its back on the whole thing and let the play server be left as a free-for-all. That will turn off even more people and cause them to abandon DotP, which means fewer players will ever bother to look at the mods here. As I've tried to say before (I don't think I'm the only thick-skulled person here

To anyone else who stumbles across this thread and who is using the mods to cheat on Steam: Don't play me. If you do, and I find out you are using mods to cheat me, I will make sure your Steam account is banned. I don't think the forum moderators have any issue with my making that statement. Enough said.

We do not condone cheating. Cheaters deserve what they get. That said, judging from the poll here: viewtopic.php?f=62&t=3144, nobody on this forum could possibly cheat because no one here plays online. Zero. Like I originally surmised, we are all happy playing the computer.
