DotP2012 - "Unfoil" cards

Postby Wolfen » 12 Oct 2011, 09:51

Hi, I've been following this forum for some days because of the mods (which are amazing). I've also searched for something like this, but I didn't found anything. So here it goes.

I acquired th special edition for DotP2012 before realising it contained the foil version of all decks, but foil cards suck in these games. Is there any possible way to revert this, through modifying any file or something? I tried asking Steam, but they refunded me the cost of the special edition although they forgot to remove the DLC. Now they refuse to make any further changes related to my account.

Thanks in advance!

What I discovered probably won't help Wolfen (since he got the "official" rights to foil decks), but will help the modders who are fed up with having foil cards in their custom-made decks. I finally discovered how to unfoil cards!

Go to DATA_PC\DATA_REQUIRED\CONFIGS in your custom pack. You'll see 2 files: _PREPPED_APPID_LINKING and APPID_LINKING. Open them. You'll notice that the files list your custom decks: the first number is the deck ID, the other 2 numbers are probably set to zero. Well, change those zeros with numbers that you can find in the same files inside Data_Core.wad.

For example, I took the numbers from Garruk's deck, and I edited this:
Code: Select all
[TEST_DECK]
1999
0
0
into this:
Code: Select all
[TEST_DECK]
1999
97300
97301
Repack your WAD and use the decks. They will be unfoiled!

Theoretically, this trick should work with any random number, but I tried to insert a random number from the Deck Editor Revised and it didn't unfoil the deck I was editing. Either the Deck Editor Revised doesn't do it properly, or you need codes that really exist.

One of those numbers should refer to the deck's unlocks. If you are using unlocks and see that this change messes up something, try changing back one of those numbers to zero (I don't know which one, but in the worst case you'll fail 1 attempt...).

For some reason it didn't work for me, and i used the numbers from Garruk too, also i tried others. My version is SKIDROW special edition, and i don't find no-special edition.

great job firemind! it works like a charm. I just copied the 3rd line of the code and pasted it on all the other custom decks.

You could try to delete the small apps file in your profile's directory.

If you use Deck Editor Revised, everytime you save a deck, there's a chance it will set those numbers back to 0. I set the APPID_LINKING files to read only, so that it doesn't happen. If you do this, Deck Editor Revised reports an error in writing APPID_LINKING, but it all goes well... just remember to edit the APPID_LINKING files manually when you create a new deck.

Deleting the apps file will permanently remove all foils for all decks.
