Default no. of lands (Magic 2013)
by 40teeth » 27 Jun 2012, 07:59
Hi, can someone explain how to edit the default number of lands for each deck in Magic 2013?
Some decks have 20 lands for 60 cards while some have 24/25 lands.
FYI, I've unpacked the decks using Gibb's tools posted here:-

Editing the deck is simple but I couldn't find where to edit the no. of lands.

It works exactly as in DotP2012: you can choose the number of non-basic-land cards in the deck, then the game adds lands until the deck hits the 60 cards. This is the mechanic without counting possible unlockable cards: those can make the deck reach more than 61 cards, and more basic lands are added when the game feels like it should.

Thanks, I got what you meant.
I just keep adding playing cards and the lands reduce correspondingly to get the 60 cards/deck.

Yeah it is like before although in 2012 a 60 card deck would normally have 24 lands autoselected. In 2013 I am busy unlocking Obedient Dead and it forces 25 Swamps out of 60 cards no matter how I juggle it. It's a mono deck and I use four Liliana's Shade cards so I'd prefer to have 2 or 3 less than that.

You can never have fewer lands than the core deck starts with. Since all the core decks in 2012 have 35 cards (excluding non-basic lands), you will always have a minimum of 25 lands unfortunately, unless you edit the core deck and include some additional cards.

Hey ho,
i have a problem with my built up deck. I made some cards and build a deck arround it. now i wanted to load my deck and see that the game busts me with 40 lands and cuts my deck back from 35 spells to 20.
How can i set the max land count of my deck?
Any idea?

As far as I know you can't set a maximum number of lands because the minimum number of cards in a deck is 60 (the game will fill with lands until it gets to 60). You can however have decks with as a few as no lands if you have enough other cards in the deck. You can also set a minimum number for each land with a land config tag in the deck itself.RisenDeep wrote:Hey ho,

As for cards that should be there not appearing, that usually happens when one or more of the cards have malformed XML in them (the game can't read them so they don't show up in the deck manager). Check that all the XML tags are properly formed in your cards (tags are either matched or are self terminated, spelling is very important here).

Thank you! I tried the min/max tags but it dindt work. I tried even every other thing but it didnt work.
Then i changed deck name and id and had 23 lands instead of 40.
I think the game memories the decks and deck counts and would load
the lands out of this memory.
I had the deck with my 3 cards (each 7 times in) to test so it had
saved the 40 lands.

Just keep adding cards in the XML.
Eg. If you add 5 more cards to the 35 cards list, the no. of lands will automatically drop from 25 to 20 lands as the default deck will always be 60 cards. If you add 25 cards to the list, then by default you will have no land cards in your deck.
