DOTP 2012 Deck Editing is way over my head.

Postby DevilMayAsian » 02 Jul 2012, 17:40

I downloaded the Deck Editor Revised for 2012, and I don't know what to do first. I went to tools and I clicked load cards. In the load cards menu I hit DLC_1111, I go to the rev directory, anyways I click on the cards file and a box comes up and says "No valid files in selected directory." I'm clueless on what to do.

You have to select CORE when you do Load cards, so it will unpack the core cards.

I'll write down what I'm doing because you're advice didn't work.

I go to tools click on Load Cards, click on CORE, I click on Ok, I go to the "rev" folder click on that, I go to the content folder, I click on DATA_DLC1111, I click on DATA_ALL_PLATFORMS, I click on the CARDS folder, and I click OK. An Error window pops up saying "No vaild files in selected directory", I click OK and I'm back where I first started from.

"Load cards" should be used to load the core cards first, so you have to select CORE and then select DATA_CORE.WAD which is in the DotP2012 directory. This will load all the core cards, so you can use them to build your own decks in DATA_DLC_1111 (which you don't need to load because you still have to fill it).

I'm unpacking DATA_CORE.WAD using WAD_PROGRAM, because gibbed tools crashes whenever I try to unpack. Ok, I just loaded the cards and the illustrations in the program.

Do I do the same thing to get the cards from the expansion and the Deck Packs?

What to do next, make a deck I guess.

After I make a deck how do I Pack DATA_DLC_1111 and where do I put it?

Yes, and you can choose between 2 ways to do it: if you put cards and illustrations together with the ones from the core, you'll have all the "original" cards in one place (I suggest to do this way). Otherwise, you can put the unpacked DATA_DLC_0001 and the unpacked deck packs in the rev\content directory of the deck editor, and the deck editor will distinguish from which pack the cards are from.

You can use the "Send content" command from the deck editor menu, that should pack and copy to your DotP2012 directory automatically.

Well I sent the content to the DotP2012 directory in the Steam folder and my deck isn't their. I even switched the DotP2012.exe that came with DeckEditRev, with the one found in the Steam folder. When I did that I get nothing but empty decks, when I exit out a MOTHER.txt pops up containing pages of this "[lua] ?:0: attempt to call method 'EmptyDecks' (a nil value)".

I noticed their are two RAR files, their are "Dotp2012.rar" and "kevlahnota.rar" what are those two files for?

I just downloaded the latest version of the deck editor (I didn't do it before because I started working on DotP2013), anyway the reason why there is kevlahnota.zip should be clarified by this post:
viewtopic.php?f=62&t=5369&start=120#p91481
You are right to be confused because I see that there's a Magic_2012.exe out of kevlahnota.zip and another one inside it. Maybe the one out of the zip is just a backup of the original, I don't know. The author of the deck editor, jstauffer, is probably busy at the moment, otherwise he would be more helpful than me.
The only thing I can suggest is to double-check all the required steps:
- Unpack cards and illustrations and let the deck editor read them.
- Select DATA_DLC_1111 in the deck editor (if you have other DLCs imported with the second method I wrote earlier, 1111 won't be the only one).
- Create a new deck and add some cards to it (just as a test).
- Use "Send content" and wait for it to finish.
- After the content has been sent, check if the DotP2012 directory contains DATA_DLC_1111.WAD: if not, something went wrong earlier.
- Run the game and check if you can see your deck: if not, close the game and try to unpack kevlahnota.zip inside your DotP2012 directory (if you didn't do it before), maybe after making a copy of the files that would be overwritten, just to be sure. Then try again.
If nothing works, then I don't know what else to suggest.
