Curiosities

Postby daenon611 » 01 Aug 2012, 11:47

Is there any room for curiosity :?:

There is movement in the game, but it's all over. =D>

Call it: killing on request! :!:

Yeah, it has already been discovered that having more than 200 tokens on the battlefield makes the game crash sooner or later.

Anyway, congratulations for the patience needed to wait for such a crowded battlefield! :D

Actually, the limit seems to be somewhere over 100, but where exactly over 100 I'm not sure. I've even seen crashes with about 150 tokens, but since the crashes are not immediate it's quite difficult to come up with an exact number of how many tokens is safe/causes crashes.

Interesting. My 1.7 million match had 238 creatures on the field and 200 were tokens. (100 elf warrior and 100 g/w elf token)
Perhaps not enough physical memory was causing these crashes?
Or maybe the given computers couldn't handle the calculations? ( that is a lot of math, especially if each one has 7512/7512)
Either way, good to know not to over do it in the future matches...

No, I don't think it has anything to do with the physical memory present or that the computer couldn't handle the calculations (I crashed with the entire computer using less than 3 GB of RAM and less than 20% of the CPU). I've had a match where I've had tokens up over 8000/8000 and more than 200 tokens for a couple of turns before the game crashed. Max tokens I've put into a game and haven't crashed (because I ended the game the same turn I put most of the tokens in) was 204 tokens (equal numbers of Llanowar Elf tokens, Green Elf Warrior, and Green/White Elf Warrior tokens [68 of each]) total damage for that attack was 1,829,873 [227 total creatures].

The crash occurs in a random turn sometime after you get somewhere over 100 tokens (exact limit unknown). I've gone as many as ~15 turns after reaching 200 tokens before the game crashed and it has happened as soon as the turn after (opponent was casting a spell at the time and no I don't remember what spell as I only got to see it for a fraction of a second) I reached 137 tokens so the exact conditions to get it to crash elude me, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with having more than a certain number of tokens.

In DotP 2010, I did not have this problem. I would play entire games with 150+ tokens (DotP 2010 token limit was 50/type). I didn't really play DotP 2012 much so I don't know if it had this problem as well or if it was immune like DotP 2010.

2012 had the same problems as 2013 as best as I was able to tell, but I had a lot of crashes with 2012 in general.
