Magic Trick : French Draft (Beta testers needed)

Postby Yanna » 21 Aug 2010, 15:54

Hello fellow modders and beta-players !

It's been a long time since i wanted to bring drafting or sealed play into Dotp and many wasted efforts ended up in nasty crashes from the game.
But it's finally done, and i'm proud to present you the 'French Draft' :) (Available now throught the SVN or later through the Community DLC release)

It's still in beta-release and bugs may be still present, but it looks fine for now (don't hesitate to report bugs or propose fixes anyway ^^).

I've written a Wiki page detailing the rules, which can be found here : http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/DOTP_French_Draft.

To play French Draft, you will need to unlock any of the 5 different Draft Packs Decks (as you would unlock any other deck) and then compete against 'The Drafter' of your choice.

Hope you'll enjoy it :)

Some bugs I found playing French draft decks
1. AI discarded only 1 card to Stupor. Stupor seem to work fine in usual duel.
2. The Opponent began to lose life each upkeep after casting Loxodon Warhammer. Maybe this caused by some card traded for land.
3. It's impossible to sacrifice creature with shroud or even Troll Ascetic to Diabolic Edict. Dunno if this is a card issue.
The whole system seem to work fine. Tried a few games with each of draft packs.

I'll try to check those cards, but they should behave the same as in normal duels (the French Draft card only interferes with players at the start of game or just before their main phase).
For the Diabolic Edict though, the targetting system makes it so that no shrouded permanent can be targetted, that means if i have a shrouded creature i can't sacrifice it. Maybe removing shroud to all of targetted player's creatures briefly when cast could correct it, not sure this can be done though.

Thanks for the feedback btw ^^ Going to look at stupor and Loxodon right now :)

I try to remove card from the deck to sideline them ( I think it's what we have to do if you don't want à 99 cards deck) but it's not possible?

The 99 cards is meant to be a 'pool' of cards to draft from (so that you're not sure wich ones you'll get every game).
You would need to make a deck of at least 54 cards plus the french draft card at minimum, and this can be achieved by modifying the text file ^^

Yep, this deck shouldn't be edited really, i mean not in-game.

But honestly, i find it more interesting to play with the full 100+ deck. Remember it will 'slim down' to 40 cards when you start playing, by removing 51 cards at random from it.

Suprinsingly the AI seem to cope well with the format and makes fewer dumb moves than with other decks.
