Just a quick note. I'm on vacation now, so I won't be able to test the first round. I'll be able to test future rounds, though. The way the tournament is set up, that should be fine, right?
Re Cuddles: Ug, mirror match. I guess that's to be expected at some point since Natural Order is so strong, even in the AI's hands. At one point Drop of Honey did target in paper. I don't know when that changed.
Meekstone was a nice metagame call against Progenitus. Good call for whoever chose to use those!

Bracket "A"
Match 1: Juzamjedi (ME) vs Serbitar MWC (AI)
Game 1: LOSE. AI crushed down to 6 life by a Goblin swarm on turn three. Nevertheless, Wrath + 2 Baneslayers later... Death.
Game 2: WIN. Lackey, Plowed. 2 more Lackeys, 1 Plowed. Attack into Piledriver. Goblin King + 2nd Piledriver = Game Over
Game 3: WIN. Lackey into Chieftain. Chieftain #2 and Piledriver cast, Chieftain Oblivion Ringed. AI drops Baneslayer but it's too late, it gets crushed.
Match 2: Serbitar (ME) vs JuzamJedi (AI)
Game 1: WIN. Wrathed away AI's army on turn four and Baneslayer and Wall of Omens were too much for the AI to handle.
Game 2: WIN. Plows and Paths flying everywhere, removed everything the AI put down and by the time it stuck three creatures on the battlefield... WoG! Followed that up with a Baneslayer and a couple of Walls. Goblins had no chance.
Juzam Jedi +1
Serbitar +2
Bracket "B"
Match 1 : Salbei (ME) vs Scherbchen (AI)
Game 1: LOSE. Turn 3 Natural Order + Progenitus. Damnation FoW'ed on turn 4, no answer on turn 5... Death.
Game 2: WIN. Same circumstances as game one, but I topdecked another Damnation one turn before I died. After that, the AI was absorrrrbed one painful Corrupt after the other.
Game 3: WIN. Meekstone held 2 Kitchen Finks at bay, while the AI got overrun with Faerie tokens. Progenitus came one turn before the AI died, but it was over.
Match 2: Scherbchen (ME) vs Salbei (AI)
Game 1: LOSE. Damnation hit Progenitus twice, with no blue cards in hand to pitch to FoW BOTH TIMES with the AI at 1 life!! Two Corrupt s later, I was at -5 (The AI had 9 swamps in play!!) This was a close, close game.
Game 2: WIN. I got off to a quick start until the AI Damned away my creatures. The next turn, it dropped Meekstone on the table paralysing my Garruk Tokens and left the AI's 2 Nighthawks beating me down. I was two turns away from death when I topdecked a Natural Order and used it to fetch Woddfall Primus, getting rid of the Meekstone. I survived the AI's following attack, winning on my turn after attacking with the Tokens and the Primus for 12. Close game too.
Game 3: WIN. I pull off a turn 3 Progenitus, swing on turn 4 and the AI drops Meekstone. On turn 5, I sacced Progenitus for another copy of him, ready to FoW the AI's coming Damnation. Lights out for the AI on turn 6.
Salbei +1
Scherbchen +1
Bracket "C"
Match 1: Aww1979 (ME) vs Jatill (AI)
Game 1: WIN. I get a turn 2 Progenitus online... the AI gets one on turn three, already at 10 life. I topdeck another Natural Order... Game over for the AI on turn 6.
Game 2: WIN. Turn 2 Progenitus again. Game over on turn 4.
Match 2: Jatill (ME) vs Aww1979 (AI)
Game 1: LOSE. Got overrun before I could manage any kind of decent defense.
Game 2: LOSE. Got a good hand, but ran into a turn two Progenitus and even though I had Natural Order in my hand, I couldn't come up with a creature to sacrifice cuz they were all white and/or blue. Sorry Jatill.

I'm very surprised my deck's been losing to Jund! I tested against some different Jund builds I put together and the AI was always horrible with it; my build never lost a single game against Jund, with me playing and especially not with the AI running itaww1979 wrote:@thedrigo: Giving Thedrigo a bye is actually better than letting him choose which of the two decks to face, since he might lose to me (a possibility nobody seems to have considered, making me sad :p)

@jatill: Yes, that's fine if you skip round 1 testing, you can still do Round 2 and so on. Eliminated players may also continue to test (or not) as they choose. With regards to Meekstone, I actually wasn't thinking specifically of Progenitus when I put that into MalcolmX.dck; I just happened to notice 'hey all my dudes are 2/2 or smaller' and knowing that 90%+ of the decks would be creature-based, I figured it would be good. Salbei also used Meekstone; I don't know what his thought process was, but it was probably similar, as all his creatures are 2 power or smaller, also.
@thedrigo: I'm a little surprised too, actually. When I tested, Cuddles did very well against Jundinator. In fact, that's the reason Jundinator has 4x Diabolic Edict :p I'd also rejected some of the more typical Jund choices like Putrid Leech due to the AI sucking with them. Also, good to see you get a perfect result with Cuddles
I think jatill is kicking my ass in that matchup, so maybe I caught up a little, hehe.
@juzamjedi: Are you testing Round 1? Since I know Jatill isn't, you are the only one who hasn't played Bracket A and B. If you aren't planning to test, I can start figuring out some of the winners; otherwise of course I will wait until June 12, as I promised.

match C:
as cuddles vs jatill 2-0
scared I was going to draw the second Progenitus. got 3 critters rfg and then got one to stick with 2 NO in hand. that one dealt approximately 20 damage.
game: keep a hand with 2 Magus, 1 Forest, 1 Hierarch and Crossroads + NO. get 2 rfg but hasty Progenitus delivers the beats.
as jatill vs cuddles 0-2
game 1 with 4 mana sources, 2 spot removal and cantrip wall. saying a prayer. fling 3 removal at critters. 4 th critter hits and it is NO time. or so I thought. all I face is a puny Nimble Mongoose that has exalted while my 2 walls are standing strong. for now. both the AI and I continue to drop lands and do bugger all else. Simic Sky Swallower shows up and seals the deal eventually. that weenie just takes to long to kill somebody with his 6 power, though! 4 attack phases... might as well play Squire!
erm, as I wrote that the AI plays NO and Crossroads and wins the race.
game 2: 3 lands, 3 walls and one spot removal. bleh. got fast mana and cantrips though. draw into more walls and mana and mana walls and die to NO.
might have been bad mulligan calls, sure. the real problem, imho, was having no answer to NO other than NO and walls that are just walls after all, even if some of them are cantrips, and not drawing business spells or reset buttons.
match D:
as brandon vs taron
mull to 6 first game due to a single mountain. gamecrash, restart.
no mull. die to t3 NO.
game 2 mull 7 lands hand. edict twice, play deed with some goodies in hand but short on mana. animate a Hierarch in order to play spells, gets Naturalize. animate another and finally manage to get a critter on board with Lord of Extinction. he races a late Progenitus for the win with the help of Exalted and Putrefy.
game 3 short on mana in the opening hand again but on the draw. no early Progenitus "wins" the game. or rather a late-show Progenitus can't race the Elvish Piper. just barely.
as taron vs brandon
game 1 mull a hand that has mana but also two Progenitus with no option of getting them back into the library. get out the dude via NO on turn 2 off the mulligan and hit for 20.
game 2 Eureka on t3 for Progenitus and Platinum Angel with Lightning Greaves in play.

Match F:
aww1979 Jundinator vs Thedrigo
Match1- Player as awww1979Jundinator:
Hit the curve, even though I haven't got bit blast unlocked, still, it isn't essential for the deck, and constant beats won it out.
1-0
Started fighting the long game, he got out progenitus, before I ran out of edicts.
1-1
He force of wills a Pulse targeted at one of two Pridemages while I try to race him. Get him down to about 6, progenitus comes out with my having 8 life. Go for the last swing possible, he's on 3 and swings for the win =(
1-2
Match2- Player as Thedrigo:
Went all in for an early (t3) progenitus, got him out, force of will kept it out long enough for the win
1-0
Goyf battle, mine gets exalted, and wins in the race.
2-0

Here is my Round 1 report. I won every match except for MalcolmX. I don't feel bad as the matchup looks like I would probably lose that one most of the time.
Match A:
Juzamjedi vs Serbitar
Juzamjedi as human win 2-0
Game 1 I overran with Goblins and put opponent to -26. Sadly there was a bug that made me discard when I was less than 7 cards :-/
Game 2 I get a very fast start which AI Wrath's. Elspeth + Baneslayer make it very close and get me down to 2 and AI at 16. I win with Goblin Matron -> Gempalm Incinerator to cycle and kill Wall of Omens -> Goblin Matron #2 -> Goblin Lackey with a Goblin Chieftan and Piledriver in play. Attack for 22, GG.
Serbitar as human win 2-0
Game 1 I keep a 2 land hand with Wall of Omens, Journey, and bombs. I get 2x Baneslayer online, and win 41-0.
Game 2 I get to abuse top to hit land drops and keep Wrathing / playing Martial Coup. Hoping there is a better way than Path to Exile to shuffle deck, but oh well I win anyway.
Match B:
Salbei vs Scherbchen
Salbei as human win 2-1
Game 1 AI plays 2 basic island and never casts a spell. Easy win.
Game 2 AI gets Natural Order -> Progenitus, but I have Damnation to stop those shenanigans. AI follows up with Jace, then Control Magic my Vampire Nighthawk, and by the time I recover he has Progenitus again and I lose.
Game 3 AI get Progenitus, but I have Damnation ready. AI plays Progenitus again, but I have Meekstone, Sorin Markhov and Vampire Nighthawk so I win the race.
Interesting note: in one of the Fact or Fiction piles I offer Jace in pile 1 vs. Island, 2x Natural Order, Coiling Oracle in pile 2. AI takes Jace.
Scherbchen as human win 2-1
Game 1 mull a 5-land hand. 6 cards are good and have Wall of Blossoms. Long game that I win by building a small board and overrun with Garruk.
Game 2 mull into 1 land hand, ugh. Game gets to 1-38 and AI uses Damnation to kill my Progenitus even though he could have killed me with Nighthawks. Doesn't matter, Phyrexian Arena has drawn him Drain Life which I can't answer.
Game 3 mull into 1 land hand again, ugh. This time I get there though because my Natural Order for Woodfall Primus knocks out Meekstone and Phyrexian Arena. YAUS I get there.
Match C:
aww1979 Cuddles vs jatill
aww1979 as human win 2-0
Game 1 opening 7 has Drop of Honey + Magus of the Vineyard. Awk. Works out OK though as I draw Natural Order before AI and win.
Game 2 opening 7 has Magus of the Vineyard + Natural Order, GG.
jatill as human win 2-1
game 1 I have a hand full of mana, walls, and SSS, but AI has a quick Natural Order that I can't do anything about and I lose.
game 2 I mulligan into Natural Order and win.
game 3 mull to 6 and no Natural Order. Mull to 5. Mull to 4 have to keep. I get T3 Natural Order and win.
You might think I'm crazy, but mull into Natural Order was pretty much my only option. Fortunately I got there.
Match D:
Brandon vs Taron
Brandon as human win 2-1
game 1 I have a hand with multiple removal spells, but Diabolic Edict doesn't work when I can't kill manadorks fast enough to make it useful. I lose to Progenitalia.
game 2 Diabolic Edict stops Progenitus and my Elvish Piper plays a lovely tune for our Hellkite Overlord 's
game 3 AI gets early swarm with Eureka. I use Pernicious Deed, Putrefy and Diabolic Edict to kill his team, but I go to 5 life in the process and can't use Reanimate. Stall for a few turns, drop a fat Lord of Extinction that decides green creatures are next on his list.
Taron as human win 2-1
game 1 mull a 5 land hand into a 0 land hand into a 5 card hand. Hardcast Platinum Angel which gets answered. AI drops Lord of Extinction, follows up with Pernicious Deed for 1 to wipe my board and win.
game 2 AI plays nothing and discards Broodmate Dragon. AI Reanimate 's it (!) and catches up the race against my exalted elf. Awesome moment: AI is at 4, but tapped out. I use Natural Order to put Noble Hierarch into play and exalted elf hits for exactly lethal 4 damage
game 3 I have hand that can play T2 Eureka with Progenitus in hand. Unfortunately game crashes so I don't know how it would have turned out.
game 3b I have a hand that can play T2 Natural Order. I decide not to risk and cast Elvish Spirit Guide since AI plays Diabolic Edict. Turns out to be a good choice and I win through athe Edict.
Match E:
Cognis vs Monopoman
Cognis as human win 2-0
game 1 Very strong opening hand with lots of animals. Not close, easy win.
game 2 I have T1 Wild Nacatl so I keep. Sometimes decisions are just that easy
Note: I learned the hard way that Imperial Recruiter cannot get Kitchen Finks
Monopman as human win 2-0
game 1 Bushwacker kicked. Twice. In the same turn. GG.
game 2 Goblin Ringleader gets me thecard advantage I need and I win an attrition battle against Zoo. Goblin Sharpshooter was pretty sweet here.
Match F:
aww1979 Jundinator vs aww1979 MalcolmX
Jundinator as human win 2-0
game 1 my 7 card hand has 1 land. 6 card hand is poop with basics and nothing castable. I keep and pray. AI plays Meekstone while I get Sprouting Thrinax god this will be a long game. I decide I will let Bob kill the AI for me and play stall.dec. AI helps me out by playing 3x Bob's and I grind out a win.
game 2 I have 3x Blightning opening hand. And then I draw the 4th. Yes I feel a little dirty. Yes I got there too
MalcolmX as human lose 0-2
game 1 I get blown out by Maelstrom Pulse on my 2x Oubliette instead of Bob. Impressed by AI ability to play Jund and I lose to a swarm of Saprolings.
game 2 Edict effects great here as I get 2x early Tarmogoyf 's.
Nekrataal was absolute poop in this matchup. I really needed Jitte to have a prayer. I probably should have mulled more aggressively for Jitte.
Match G:
Discorandom vs Shantak
Disco as human win 2-0
game 1 on turn 2 I sculler a hand of Duress, Bitterblossom, Tendrils and lands. I take Duress because I have Vindicate to deal with Bitterblossom. There is a scary moment where AI Pulses 1 of my baneslayers, but I send it farming in response. AI plays cards and I eventually Hymn to Tourach and he loses Garruk + Regrowth which he could have played (?)
game 2 I rape the AI's hand while he plays 2x Bitterblossom. I maintain my life total with Baneslayer Angel while AI dies to its own Bitterblossom.
Shantak as human win 2-0
game 1 T1 Duress, take Hymn to Tourach and leave a pile of poop. I am a little greedy with 2x Bitterblossom and Phyrexian Arena in play, but I get there at 2 life.
game 2 AI never casts a spell, so yeah GG.
Match H:
Nyktorion vs Yggdrasil
Nyktorian as human win 2-0
game 1 we trade, but AI can't stop my Figure of Destiny showing his ultimate power.
game 2 AI has Kor Firewalkers which are only mildly annoying. My animals go RAWR as I ignore them and attack his face.
Yggdrasil as human win 2-1
game 1 Ranger of Eos for 2x Figure of Destiny. Not losing that attrition war!
game 2 T2 Woolly Thoctar, but AI answers it. Game draws out and I have 2x Balefire Liege in play, but I run out of chump blockers for Sword of Fire and Ice and lose to the equipment.
game 3 Mull to 6, but AI throws Kird Ape in front of my Figure. AI shows Path to Exile twice and it ramps me into the 2x Balefire Lieges I have and I win.
Match A:
Juzamjedi vs Serbitar
Juzamjedi as human win 2-0
Game 1 I overran with Goblins and put opponent to -26. Sadly there was a bug that made me discard when I was less than 7 cards :-/

jatill as human win 2-1
game 1 I have a hand full of mana, walls, and SSS, but AI has a quick Natural Order that I can't do anything about and I lose.
game 2 I mulligan into Natural Order and win.
game 3 mull to 6 and no Natural Order.

I know this was several pages back, but I'm curious about this play. If Faerie tokens cannot block Progenitus then why bother countering Bitterblossom on T2?Serbitar wrote:2nd game, I keep a sketchy one lander with mutiple Hierarch and Coiling Oracle. I Force t2 Bitterblossom, but AI resolves another t3. Meanwhile I have enough mana for Natural Order into Progenitus, which wins.

Juzamjedi: I changed Bracket F, so you'll have to replay that one again, sorry. I forgot to put thedrigo's deck in the list, so could you replay F with jundinator versus thedrigo? MalcolmX has been given the boot to make room :p
And in my personal testing, Jundinator was better than MalcolmX, so no real surprise. Those who tested the old Bracket F also showed the same results, though the difference was even bigger for others than it was for me.
@taron: The main source of scoring confusion is that the system changed from the previous two tournaments, since this one has a new format.
@all: Some of the brackets have now been played by everyone (except Jatill, who doesn't plan to for this round) so I'll add scores up for those which are done. If everyone finishes early, I'll start Round 2 ahead of schedule; otherwise, everyone has till the 12th, as mentioned already.

edit: Deleted my entire post because I'm a retard and didn't notice Shantak hadn't submitted his testing yet. I had added up all the points for Brackets A and B because I thought everyone had posted their results, but I was wrong.
There are three kinds of people in this world: Those who can count, and those who can't. Guess which one I'm proving to be...

Bracket "D"
Match 1: Brandon (ME) vs Taron (AI)
Game 1: WIN. AI obliterated with tons of fatties, thanks to Elvish Piper. Not having any spot removal for this little f#cker is TERRIBLE for Taron's deck in this matchup.
Game 2: LOSE. Drigo obliterated by turn 3 Progenitus. Progenitus turn 3 is terrible for anyone's deck in any matchup.
Game 3: WIN. AI dropped a turn 3 Progenitus again, but I was ready with a Diabolic Edict this time. Cleaned up all the chump blockers/potential offerings for Natural Order with Pernicious Deed and pwned the AI with big Dragons thanks, again, to Elvish Piper.
Match 2: Taron (ME) vs Brandon (AI)
Game 1: LOSE. All I got were lands and Naturalize. Raced the AI with... (drumroll)... 3 Noble Hierarch s!!! A single Llanowar Elf joined the fray on turn 6. The AI had 3 Stinkweed Imps and was losing the race. However, the AI Putrefied 2 attacking Hierarchs consecutively at 2 life, getting him ahead enough to win the race with the Imps. I ended the game with 9 forests, 1 Gaea's Cradle and a hand with 3 Naturalize and 2 Eureka, fun.
Game 2: WIN. Turn 2 Progenitus thanks to Eureka, Elvish Spirit Guide and Fyndhorn Elves... Far from fair.
Game 2: WIN. Painfully long game, unexpected finish. AI at 9 life with Broodmate Dragon, Token, 2 Stinkweed Imp and 2 Elvish Piper online to attack me next turn. My board's just been wiped by Pernicious Deed, Progenitus and Naturalize in hand, 12 life. Miraculously, I topdeck Eureka!! Drop Progenitus, AI drops Platinum Angel and land! I Naturalize the Angel on AI's upkeep praying to God it doesn't draw a Hellkite Overlord... Thankfully, it drops its 11th land, swings for 12, Progenitus garbles down an Elvish Piper and I survive with one life left. Next turn, I swing and win. Pretty insane!
Brandon +1
Taron +1
The main problem I had with the Reanimator deck was getting creatures in the 'yard... Maybe something fast like Entomb or Wild Mongrel would have been a better fit than Stinkweed Imp?

Match F:
Aww1979 Jundinator vs. Aww1979 MalcolmX
Jundinator wins vs. AI 2-0
MalcolmX wins vs. AI 2-1
(Malcolm X is the Computer)
Game 1: Get out some early Thrinax action while AI plays out some early beaters and removes some of my threats. Meekstone becomes problematic so I remove it with Pulse. Finish him off with Saproling beats after he removes all the Thrinaxs
Game 2: Similar game overall early creatures removed on both sides. Nothing of note happens until I get out some Thrinax beats and clear the way for the win.
(Jundinator is the Computer)
Game 1: AI gets out a Tarmo and removes my early Order of the Ebon Hand. Knight of Stormgald removes a Tarmo in combat cause the AI is dumb and blocked. AI makes more mistakes like attacking with a Thrniax when I can make Knight of Stormgald have first strike and block with him and nekratall. Lots of nothing going on and as we keep removing the other players stuff. Eventually AI gets out a 5/6 tarmo though and I run out of answers.
Game 2: This time the Black force gets in there since the AI doesn't have as much going on removes some of my threats but not enough to stop the invasion.
Game 3: Early victory since AI doesn't get any black mana it seems Jitte + Knight Beats = GG.
Match G:
Discorandom vs. Shantak
Discorandom wins vs. the AI 2-0
Shantak wins vs. the AI 2-1
(Shantak as the Computer)
Game 1: Baneslayer holds off the invading horde with Eldrazi monument down. Trying to hold off the AI until it runs out of creatures to sac for the monument. Able to slowly gain control as Bitterblossom and Arena slowly remove his life total Discard keeps cards out of his hand. He finally removes my Baneslayer though and proceeds to try to get me down in life. AI makes some dumb moves though and lowers his life even more with a Night's Whisper. Eventually dies to his own enchantments.
Game 2: Hymn to Tourach x3 in the first few turns is fairly back breaking. At that point the AI is in topdeck mode with only a Ivory Tower out and I am a bit mana screwed. Get out a sculler after a few turns and remove a Tendrils with him. AI top decks pulse and I am back at square one. Eventually the B/W horde becomes too much for the AI to handle.
(Discorandom as the Computer)
Game 1: Lots of back and forth as discard fly's and removal does also. Garruk eventually take over the game as I prevent the AI from doing anything to him at all. Game takes forever cause the AI stops the token beats for quite a while. The win eventually comes for me though.
Game 2: Very close game the Discard+Beats gets me really low and my Arena+Bitterblossom starts to make it very dangerous. Arena and Bitterblossom finish me off cause the AI keeps making me discard. Grave Pact helped a lot but not enough.
Game 3: AI keeps a one hand land for no reason at all but proceeds to do okay since my deck is so slow. The AI is much less relentless in forcing me to keep my hand lower and Garruk+Double Bitterblossom get the beats going in which finishes the AI off.
Aww1979 Jundinator vs. Aww1979 MalcolmX

New Match F:
aww1979 Jundinator vs thedrigo Natural Order Bant
Jundinator as human win 2-0
game 1 AI has a good start, but I have Blightningfollowed by 2x Diabolic Edict to stop Progenitus. I sit waiting with 2x Bituminous Blast and no targets in play. After an eternity of stockpiling removal I play a fe threats and a Sprouting Thrinax finally takes it home.
game 2 AI has T1 Tarmogoyf and nothing else for next few turns. I kill the goyf, drop a few randoms and win easily with Diabolic Edict still in hand. On the last turn I cast Bloodbraid Elf just for giggles and I get a 5/6 Tarmogoyf out of the deal, not bad.
thedrigo as human lose 1-2
game 1 my opening hand is SEXY with T1 Noble Hierarch, T2 Lotus Cobra, fetch, Qasali Pridemage, EOT Mystical Tutor for Natural Order. T3 my Lotus Cobra beats Tarmogoyf in battle and I cast Natural Order.
game 2 I mull a 5 land hand with Natural Order and Force of Will. Then I mull a 0 land hand. 5 cards is Swords to Plowshares and 4 lands, meh. I get Progenitus on T4, but AI has the edict.
game 3 I punt this game hard. I should have beat AI, but misplayed badly. AI casts Blightning and I let it resolve no sense in using Force of Will there. I discard Qasali Pridemage for card #1. Card #2 can reasonably be Path to Exile (I had 2) or Progenitus. I have no other blue cards and I have Natural Order. I should have discarded the Path, but instead I discard Progenitus "because I don't lose a card". In reality I needed the blue card for Force of Will much more. I am able to cast Natural Order right after Blightning and walk straight into Diabolic Edict. UGH and I lose.
