Trouble installing xmage
by LordProphet » 18 Mar 2022, 03:01
Hey guys, returing to Xmage after a long hiatus and having trouble getting it to run on my computer. I have the most recent version of Java. When I download it from the button on the website it downloads it as a .jar file, and I can't seem to get it to open. It insists on opening an explorer window and ends up in an endless loop of open, save, open, save. What am I doing wrong?

To download XMage beta, start by visiting the official XMage website (xmage.de). Navigate to the "Downloads" section and look for the latest beta version. Download the installer for your operating system (Windows, Mac, or Linux). Once downloaded, run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. Make sure you have the latest version of Java installed, as XMage requires it to run. If you encounter any issues, check the site's forums or support section for troubleshooting tips. Happy gaming!

Trying to install XMage on Windows 10. I've followed the official guide but keep getting an error message saying "Failed to create directory." I've tried running the installer as administrator and checking for any antivirus conflicts, but nothing seems to work. Any ideas?

It sounds like you're having trouble running the .jar file for XMage. This is often related to issues with how Java is set up on your system. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot:
Ensure Java is Properly Installed: Even if you have the most recent version, try reinstalling Java from the official site.
Set Java to Open .jar Files: Right-click the .jar file, choose "Open with," and select Java. Ensure the box "Always use this app to open .jar files" is checked.
Run via Command Line:
Open Command Prompt.
Navigate to the directory where the .jar file is located.
Type java -jar xmage.jar (replace xmage.jar with the actual file name) and press Enter.
Check for Java Environment Variables:
Ensure that Java's bin directory is included in your system's PATH environment variable.
Re-download XMage: If the issue persists, the download may have been corrupted. Try downloading it again.

Ensure that .jar files are associated with the Java Runtime Environment. You can do this by right-clicking the .jar file, selecting "Open with," and choosing the Java platform.
