The program speed is slow. (solved)
by seedds » 25 May 2013, 07:08
The program speed is slow when I play both Human vs. Human and Human vs. Computer.
After I removed the folder [images] in "mage-client\plugins", the speed is vastly improved.
However, this is not a pratical solution. Any idea what else I could do to improve the speed?
Any suggestion is much appreciated.

Playing online games feels very slow to me, at least compared to MTGO. While there are hot keys to help speed up the game, it seems as though pressing them doesn't always registers. It also appears that you have to wait until it is your turn to press ok / cast spells before they will work. Maybe this is just the lag I am noticing though. There should be an F8 hot key in Mage that is similar to MTGO that would skip the steps if you can't play anything and tapped out. Another person mentioned having a timer before which could help a lot as well.
Is there a way to map hot keys? My brother has a MAC and can't press F9...

I'm doing local games, and the speed difference when removing the images folder is huge.

When you talk about speed are you talking about the time that the AI makes to takes decisions, or the speed of the software in general?
Because when I had MAGE using JAVA 7, it was very very slow like I press space and I had to wait few seconds.
Now I'm running JAVA 6 and it works perfectly.

What are your system setups?seedds wrote:I'm doing local games, and the speed difference when removing the images folder is huge.
Which OS?
Which OS version?
Which Java version? (release 32/64bit)
Do you store images in Zip or unzipped format?
Which version of MAGE?
Normally MAGE runs (especially using human vs. human) at a reasonable speed. So I'm pretty sure, it runs with a problem on your system.

I'm running MAGE 1.0.3dev with zipped images on Win7 64bit, installed 64bit java7.
I'll do some comparison with a new system, and unzipped images, and see how it runs.

I'm pretty sure installing and using Java 32bit will help you a lot.seedds wrote:I'm running MAGE 1.0.3dev with zipped images on Win7 64bit, installed 64bit java7.

I'm astonished that you can even use it with 64bit java. I was not able to do it on Win7 with JRE 64bit. It always crashed very soon.
Are you using JRE or the Java JDK to run MAGE?

You can check it if you start the task-manager go to the mage-client process and show the properties.seedds wrote:It looks like I'm using Java 32bit, which is also installed. The attachment Untitled.jpg is no longer available
There you can see the location of the jawaw and this should be the JRE 32 directory.

Yes, it shows "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin"
I tried installing a new Win7 32bit with 32bit Java in a VirtualBox environment. The speed is much faster. I guess there is something wrong with my system.
