Windows 8 Java problem?
by Soundgarden » 29 Jun 2014, 22:02
Hi all,
very interested I tried to download this program and it wouldnt start on my Windows 8. Then I updated Java, still the same start up error:
A DOS Window and a background appears, then I get:
"java.lang.nullpointerexception"
Any solution?

So I opened the startClientWin7.bat and changed the entries with all 4 possibilities and get the same error each time.
Also, the OP of that thread talked about a "memory error". I think my machine should have enough memory.

Sure your machine may have enough memory.
The question is if the Java Virual Machine has enough memory assigned to.
That's controlled by this script settings.
What exact java version are you using?
- version number
- 32 or 64 bit (if you use a 64 bit Java version, try the 32 bit version of Java, this helped in many cases).
- JRE or JDK
Did you test to start XMage as Admin?
Try to activate the java console, so you see the complete errror message and the cause of the "java.lang.nullpointerexception". Post this here, so it's maybe possible to find the reason for the problem.

Java Version 7 Update 60 Build 1.7.0_60-b19
I think 64 bit.
Running as admin didnt work.
Can't get console to work in Win8.
I think I'mma just stay with MWS then.
