OS X Problem - Mage Client UI Errors

I am getting some Mage Client UI Errors when trying to launch the client (one from the startclient file, one from xmage launcher). I had a much more detailed explanation typed out but since I am a new user the forum software is flagging what I typed as spam for some reason. Anywho, happy to go into more detail but I will say I've already following the instructions on the 5 easy staps to xmage page.

Using the launcher is the most simple way to install XMage on a MAC.

To be able to post more in the forum you need at least 4 posts.
So do some dummy posts to be able to post more details about your specific problem.

This is my 4th post. I will update with the specific errors when I get home from work, thank you for the assistance.

I am running Mac OS X 10.10.2 with Java version 1.8.0_40-b25 and jdk1.8.0_40.jdk. When I download the launcher and try to launch the client, a window pops up with a bunch of errors that all say "error for symbol: x" and then a separate window opens titled "MAGE Client UI error" with the text reading "java.lang.NullPointerException". Once I click ok in that window, nothing happens.

For some reason the Launcher also downloads a different version of Java when run for the first time - this may be by design, it may not be.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you much!

Also, I can get the client to run using startclient.command, but it also throws a MAGE Client UI error: java.lang.NumberFormatException: For input string: "".

I am able to download symbols and images but am unable to log on to a server. It request a username but I am unable to enter text into the username field.
