Deck File Format: A Request
by Mulsiphix » 27 Mar 2016, 18:32
The current deck files requirement to specify a Card Number and Set in order to display a specific image file for a card is overly complicated and very time consuming. The exact same effect could be achieved for 99% of all MTG cards by simply specifying only the Set that the card comes from. I have seen similar requests while searching about this topic on the internet. Is there a reason why this functionality was never implemented or are there any plans to add it in the future?

Only issue with that would be things like lands or cards with multiple images (Mishra's Factory, the Tron lands, lots of Fallen Empires cards).

I think allowing the normal random pick behavior would work for these specific situations.rigeld2 wrote:Only issue with that would be things like lands or cards with multiple images (Mishra's Factory, the Tron lands, lots of Fallen Empires cards).
Priority List
- Find the exact card within the specified edition and add to deck
- If more than one card exists or if the choice is not clear, randomly select card from available choices. If choice is still unclear, utilize existing deck behavior to resolve this instance.
- Afterwards alert end user to what cards were affected by Rule #2 so they can manually assign those cards in the normal fashion using the deck builder.

Looks like I was wrong. I found a deck created by Magic Workstation that all had the formatting I'm looking for. Unfortunately, upon import XPlay generates errors. Of the cards that do pop up their editions are still randomly chosen =\. Anyway, point is this has been done before.Mulsiphix wrote:At least the amount of work required to quickly build a deck with edition preferred art would be less time consuming and would address a feature that no other magic programs (to my knowledge) have ever tackled before.
