Hello all,

I found out about xmage through the magic duels subbreddit. Really glad to hear there is a free, open source method for playing magic with rules enforcement!

Here's my situation:

I tried following the guide written by user LevelX here, but got stuck.

1. I made sure to install Java SE runtime and the JDK as instructed by him. Then I went to xmage's official website to download a copy of the jar file (XMageLauncher-0.3.8.jar).

2. I ran the jar file and it opened up to the launch menu of xmage where it then prompted me to download its own version of java. Next I tried clicking the "launch client" button, but all it does is take me to a black screen (screenshots are attached to this post).

Would someone please tell me where I am going wrong on the install process?

Thank you very much for all your hard work on Xmage!

EDIT:

It appears I was suffering from a typical issue that comes from installing Xmage on one's computer for the first time.

In a bug report post by LevelX he mentions that sometimes you need to delete the "installed.properties" java file and subsequently relaunch the Xmage launcher jar file. Xmage will think that you are opening Xmage for the first time on your computer, which means it will download its own version of Java all over again.

After letting Xmage redownload its own version of Java, it created a new copy of "installed.properties" so that when I clicked on the "launch client" option this time, it actually started up Xmage!

Hope this helps anyone installing Xmage for the first time in the future and find this help post via google!
