DMCA strikes again

Postby BetaSteward » 14 Jan 2012, 14:52

Well it's finally happened. We are now proud members of the DMCA takedown notice club. I guess it's a sign that we have become popular enough to draw the notice of the big boys.

There really isn't any infringing material in MAGE but that doesn't stop someone from saying that there is. That's the tragic flaw in the DMCA. Enforcement occurs before guilt is established. You're guilty until you prove your innocence. We could fight them in the official channels but that requires deeper pockets and more available time than I have.

So we are going to move our operation to a location that is not within the DMCA's jurisdiction. We are looking at options and will let you know when we have a new source repository and download site.

Stay tuned for more info.

Forge has gotten those a few times before the only thing i know they do different then they used to
is make code changes to the source on slightlymagic.net instead of google. They still release program updates on on the forums like before.

The DMCA is seriously bullshit and IMO every politician that voted for it is unequivocally against the interests of citizens. Companies will of course abuse every law they've bribed politicians into making for them, as with the DMCA and its extreme and ridiculous application all over the Internet.

MAGE is probably my favorite rules-enforced MTG app and it sucks to see this happen. I hope things will be able to continue smoothly.

Also, Eldar Cathar doesn't give counters in 0.8.1.

Yes, we will continue our project as we don't think that this DMCA was fair.

The screen size was really fixed in 0.8.2 and we plan to release it soon.
Meanwhile you may try it here and give us some feedback:
http://mtgathering.ru/mage/
But please take into acccount that this version can't be used to play PvP games as we still have 0.8.1 on Mage Official server. So only vsAI games for now.

As project was closed, the old version (0.8.1) is available here:
http://mtgathering.ru/mage/mage-bundle-081.zip
and here:
http://www.2shared.com/file/Bd-FHYpO/ma ... e-081.html

Since now our new home is http://magefree.com/ but it is still under construction.
