Intro.
Gaia.li is a truly free open source card game. We are looking for new crew members that want to join the project. I'm creating a professionally looking and playing customizable card game (e.g. like MtG) that is open and gratis, and that's playable both with real cards as well as online.

What is around

  • The will and means! I have been around for a couple of years already and follow things through, financially and with patience.
  • A huge amount of top-quality artwork, much of which is our own original work.
  • A steady flow of new original coherent looking art coming in.
  • Some cards ready for concept testing.
  • Prototyping and playtesting using Tabletop Simulator et.c.
  • Plenty of documentation.

What is planned

  • Core set with around 250-300 cards.
  • Keeping a healthy community with a real influence.
  • Releasing future expansions, frequent small releases instead of an elephant sub-projects.
  • Active revisions to keep balance.
  • Availability in all major (and minor) languages.
  • Making the game playable on any and everything, amongst others: gCCG / OCTGN2 and LackeyCCG, for online play.
  • Open source desktop based cross platform client/server for playing vs others and the system (unity/c#) in the making.

Open positions

Game designer: Wizard responsible for designing and working with cards and rules.
Needed skills: Knowledge and experience in the field of collectible card games.
Duties: Providing and judging ideas for new cards and rules, keeping things up to date across dev. team and card base, coordinating effort. Concept- and playtesting.

Coders: Any and all are welcome.

Everyone: And the rest of you as well! Anyone experienced with card games will not be thwarted in our team. On the contrary.

If you are interested, please introduce yourself by mailing us a presentation of yourself, your skills and thoughts.

Python's not a real language?

On a more on-topic note, I would normally love to help with a project like this, but ever since I started working, I have little enough time for my own projects (which is to say no time at all). So instead I'll just have to wish you luck on your endeavours and hope you can find the help you're looking for.

Also, you don't describe the rules of this game, or link to someplace that does (that I could see). So... what are the rules of this game?

Understandable, and I think most of us that have university studies or jobs are in the same position. That's why we make slow progress and want more people onboard ;) We actually even put this down into the projects guidelines in the form of "real life first" - we don't want people to feel bad because they cant contribute as much every week/month and understand that people have ups and downs in free time.

Thanks! I don't know what I was thinking when I posted, but it sure wasn't clear: Our site with all info you might need can be found on http://WTactics.org

Summarised: The rule se I myself and some of the others am working on is one that sticks very close to MtG, introduces movement/spatiality (two battle fronts as opposed to one in MtG) and aims to have an easier to administer resource system, among other things. It can be found in our wiki.

You would of course be allowed and welcome to develop almost any rule set of your own should you want to if you joined. In the end however only one will be declared as the official one.

FYI, We (The Wagic team) have been discussing about a port of WTactics to the Wagic engine for a little while now. We're surely not there yet, and that's not what you're looking for (Wagic doesn't have a network mode yet, so that would be a game against the AI), but we are slowly improving our engine to allow "mods", and hopefully entirely new games (including WTactics).

I'll keep you posted :)

I came here via Kickstarter seeing as the project claims to be Open Source.

Please can you point me in the direction of the source files?
