Hello from the Designer of the original Shandalar game

Postby coyote tex » 04 Jun 2022, 15:02

Hi. I'm the original producer and designer from the 1997 version of MtG for PC, which you guys all know and love as the Shandalar version.

I stumbled across a YT video where ProJared was playing the game (its a 47 video series where he does an entire play through to the end). I was blown away that a fan community had resurrected the game so I started sleuthing around and found CCGH and this message board.

You guys are my heroes!

I'm happy to answer any questions you have about the original game.

I'm working on getting the 2010 version installed and I can't wait to go back 25 years in time and roam Shandalar again. If anyone has tips on how to get it working on Windows 10, I'd appreciate the assist.

Welcome! (I know, I said I wouldn't post first, but as long as I'm here...)

Here's the updated installer for Windows: viewtopic.php?p=252825#p252825

Welcome, coyote tex! THANK YOU for your work in designing one of my favorite games of all time. Did you work on the Shandalar campaign-mode aspect in particular? Or the core 'duels' game as well?

Welcome Coyote Tex

There's still a lot of love for this game.

What people really need is the source code to the game so they can update the game.

Don't you have the source code forgotten in your Hard drive? :D

He produced and designed the game, while Sid Meier and four other programmers did the code, so highly unlikely he has the code.

Sid has already said he doesn't have any code, so that leaves the four other programmers...

I wonder if coyote tex ever got it installed. I had no trouble so am unable to confirm that the installer needs updating.

Alright this announcement is no longer global so the thumbs are working again.

<edit> Looks like coyote tex is gone to the land of Shandalar forever.

I see that the thread is about a year old, but I wanted to chime in anyway. I saw your post about being the original producer and designer from the 1997 version of MtG for PC, aka the Shandalar version. That's so cool! I remember playing that game as a kid and it was always a blast. It's awesome that you found a fan community that resurrected the game.
