Korath's Shandalar Updates: Bug Reports

Postby Bog Wraith » 08 May 2015, 17:05

This is the new thread that will be the repository for all bug reports for Korath's updates to Shandalar. I'm not sure how we will distinguish each release, wether it will be an alpha - number system or some other way that Korath will determine how he wants to track these.

For now as Korath has pointed out, this is pre-alpha release software, so we will stick with this classification until we go to a full up alpha release.

Please post all your bug reports in this thread only so we can keep it easy to access and search for when we are tracking these anomalies.

Try to describe the best you can what the game state was when you came across these bugs and include any screenshots or other pertinent info you think will help get your report to aid in getting the bug fixed. Using the save game function to set the game state up before the crash/bug occurs might also be an addition to our arsenal of information to get these problems isolated and highlighted. We'll wait & see how Korath wants us to proceed with these different ways to track & report these occurrences as we move forward.
-----------------------------
Important Notice!

For now, when each new release from Korath is made available. I will post its version number here.

Please include what version number you have installed and that you are reporting a bug report about.

The latest version is now "Ruined Tower 2"

I moved Aswan Jaguar's bug report here, but something got screwed up and it doesn't show his name or avatar. Just want to give him the credit as he posted this, not me. :oops:

I targeted Pheres-Band Centaurs with Sheltering Word and my creature got ability icons(I don't know if it got the actual abilities,too) for hexproof correctly,tramble from Paragon of Eternal Wilds but also shroud,infect if I am not wrong,another one I don't know the icon and some blank icons,too.

Ok, as said in the other thread, I get some complete freeze crashes all the time.
I run on windows seven.
More often the game freezes when it starts a new duel, when you have the choice between bribing the enemy or choosing to duel. sometimes it starts to show the card spot on the left hand side, but that part remains black and it freezes.
after a while the computer tells me tha programm encountered an error and closes.
A variant of that bug occurs in mid games with the same result. but without the possibility to have the "bad parameters" window through the tasks menu.

the most duels I ahve been able to complete before another crash is two.
ha ! and I noticed aswan jaguars' bug as well. on that Hexproof beast you got in the green player's starting deck (cant' rememeber the name now)

The ability icons with hexproof are likely cosmetic. If it doesn't actually have shroud or infect (and both should be easy to test), and it always happens with everything with hexproof, I know exactly what's wrong.

I'll need the full text of that encountered-an-error window to be able to do anything with it.

Hmmm. Let me try to remember. Overall its VERY well run, but I did encounter a few consistent crashes.

- Overwhelming Stampede crashes the game for me
- I can't sell Mana Crypt, you right click it and it crashes
- Verdant Force gets a error message saying it cannot create the tokens, memory full or something like that.

Also a very weird glitch I encounter is every once in a while when I'm in a dungeon, I'll start a game with an enemy in the dungeon and it gives me anywhere from 2-5 cards from my deck in my hand and an empty library. Needless to say, I lose instantly.

Yes, it is just Hexproof. I encounter the same issue

This isn't a bug more of a hopeful fix in the future as it has been so annoying and that is the Mulligan rule. Enough said lol

Sunpetal Grove is considered as a creature by the game

Wall of Vines is considered as an instant by the game

That's a design bug in the original game; the "any creatures" and "any instants" lines refer to the cards you can get at the destination city (by trading jewels or by starting a quest there). It only tells you what kind of card you need to bring there when you're getting the quest, or if you don't have a card of the right color and type to trade.

(So yes, it's a problem; but not with Sunpetal Grove or Wall of Vines.)

I see what's wrong with Overwhelming Stampede. It won't affect other cards.

I've fixed Verdant Force; it was a result of me being careless while copying its effect from Verdant Embrace.

Does the Mana Crypt bug happen consistently (i.e., every time you right click it)? And does it happen with other dungeon cards?

I'll replace the mulligan rule once I can come up with an algorithm for the AI to use it intelligently. The Manalink version, IIRC, only mulligans if it has 0, 1, or more than 5 lands.

Just to leave my impressions, after playing for a while:

1) I've had a few crashes during combat (i.e. it seems like the AI gets stuck "thinking" indefinitely), but nothing compared to the amount of crashes that Manalink has got us used to ;) it actually seems rather stable to me... or, at least, not less stable than the original Shandalar;

2) Whenever it does crash, it doesn't seem to manifest in the same way as mathulasem describes: to me, it happened either during combat (and it doesn't really crash... I can still right-click on the Shandalar program and choose to "close it" without having to kill the process) or when entering those "bonus" things that are randomly scattered in the field (this bug was caused by having some of the files with the "read-only" flag activated... after fixing that, it stopped happening altogether);

3) I don't know if this is known or not, but Shadow doesn't seem to be implemented (creatures with Shadow can be blocked by creatures without Shadow);

4) "Protection from creatures" seems to be implemented as "banding"(?);

5) "Time Warp" (and the other card that's exactly the same, but from Portal) seem bugged to me. When you cast them, it lets you choose which player to target, but it always gives the free turn to the _opponent_, regardless of what you choose :cry:

Off the top of my head, can't think of anything else... in fact, in many ways (e.g. those "Choose a card" screens), this version seems much more usable than the previous Shandalar version we had =D> yay

Once again: Thanks Korath :)

PS: oh, yeah... and now it's much more difficult to keep within the total card limit :lol: but that's not really a bug, as much as it is a limitation of the original game

Some autosaves from immediately before duels that freeze would be helpful.

Shadow works for me, though I notice that Soltari Trooper doesn't have it set. If you were seeing it with some other card, I need a full repro, not just "it doesn't work". Screenshot at a minimum.

Protection from creatures used to be Battering Ram's "banding while attacking" ability; I missed one check while removing the old functionality.

All time-skipping effects always end up working for the AI. Whoops. Fixed that.

I have seen a lot of times AI keep an 1 land hand in Manalink version and I think,(I am not certain though) I have seen it keep a 6 land hand,too.

I hope that you apply the better mulligan version once done to Manalink,too.

Sup guys! First, I would like to say that you're officially my favorite person for doing this. This Shandalar update is the coolest way to play magic since 'cube' imho. So, last night, I did some testing and I found the game to run better than the original in many ways. However, I did find a few minor bugs and one major one.

1.) Gloom is totally broken. Somehow, I can't play lands of that color or even pay the 3 extra mana to pay a white spell if it's on the board. Basically, it just locks me out of white.

2.) Eldrazi Spawn cannot be sacrificed for mana.

3.) Library of Alexandria glitches sometimes when interacting with cards like Sylvan Library or Crystal Ball and, temporarily, will not let you draw even though I have 7 cards in hand.

4.) Seat of Synod, and perhaps other artifact lands, are considered spells and can be countered.

Here's the big one: 5.) Armageddon totally froze up the client vs Winged Stallion late-game. It looked like that AI was 'thinking' but never resolved. Eventually I got 3 error messages and I had to close out the game. For some boneheaded reason, I didn't take a screen shot. I will try to reproduce this glitch and post it again.

Btw, I noticed that you're constantly adding cards to the database. Is there some way for me to update Shandalar as you add the new cards? Also, how do I install the enemy decks overhaul? The bad guys are still playing with awful cards like Coral Helm.

Overall, you have been doing an amazing job. I am at your disposal if you need my help with anything.

Welcome aboard cholulaablongata! :)

As for new creature decks, the floor is open to all players to build decks from all the cards now available from within the deck editor that you think would best suit the different creatures that roam Shandalar. Everyone is encouraged to do so and this will be an ongoing process as more cards are introduced into the game.

As for updating Shandalar, Korath will release new versions of the game as we move forward from what is now pre-alpha software to alpha & beta versions as time goes on. Every new release will be posted, so visit the forum on a regular basis for these updates as well as any other news that pertains to the game. Also, continue to post any & all bug/crash reports that you come across & include if you can screenshots and game state descriptions when these anomalies occur.
