Snacko thank you so much for taking the time to look at Shandalar and dissect it to improve it. And you are doing it for free. People like me live for things like this. I get stuck on games and play them for years. My only wish for those games are things like this. I've been lucky since the games I'm stuck on are Diablo 2, Warcraft 3 customs, and Microprose MTG DOTPW. I've been telling my friends here in town about this. We can't wait to play with a fresh new library of cards.

I had the same error, but now I can't even get Shandalar to open anymore. I can't get past the Enter Your Name screen.Dominixux wrote:Hi guys,
There is a bug in Shandalar. Something is wrong with a face maker, but the game runs fine, until...
What is the bug?
Bug: when duel started and I got damage from a creature (only human player) and image icon for preventing damage is shown then game crashes.
Same bug appears when you try to flip over your face in duel or you have card with text "select target player".
I think, this appears because when you start shandalar, face maker does not appear,
there is an error: text.c line 131: File fonts.cv could not be opened:EXITING.
Why I suspect in face maker is because, as I remember, face maker need to appear after you choose game's difficult (wizzard) and player color (black).
I assume that this is not difficult to solve but who knows.
Does anyone's game have this bug or just mine?

Before I updated manalink to 2.0 or whatever version, Shandalar runs great. Now, I have discribed bug.
Snacko, can you upload all the game's folders as zip on the Internet? Post the link
I think game has less then 300 MB or less if you exclude folders CardArtNew and WAVs. Mine has 220 MB (CardArtNew and WAVs are included).
Please. Do it because you can and because then all we have same version as you have.
If something go wrong in game, some kind of bug or something else, we know who to blame. Hahahaha!
I'm just kidding.
Thanks in advance.
Best Regards, Dominixux.

I tried that one minutes ago. I screwed the game.
I create back up. I am a lucky buster. Hahaha!
This bug is actually Assertion Error
File-> D:\NewMagic\sources\sidlib\text.c
If I run FaceMaker.exe in game root directory it runs great, but if I run FaceMaker.exe in FaceMaker folder, it shows me new
Assertion Error:
File-> D:\NewMagic\sources\sidlib\Fileio.c, Line->247
Error Opening File FaceArt/facebk0New.pcx
That file is already in "game root directory"\FaceArt.
I saw to much similar errors on my work, but there I have a source code and may debug it.
Now, I am lost... but don't give up, yet.
I am one of those programmers. People call us crazy and look us with different eyes.
Only 'cause they don't understand us.

I installed game from the beginning and now shandalar works fine.
(I used the game from the thread on this forum)
I think mentioned bug was in my game 'cause it has not been installed.
Game was only copied from a friend, who installed game on XP after many, maaaaany installations of the same.
That was our first installation after maaaaaaany, maaaaaaaaaaaaaaany failures.

Hey Snacko just stopping in to say I hope things are going well. Any news
? I'm interested in what's been going on even if it's a break as long as you are not going to give up on this. Well good luck and hope to hear from you soon.

Hello everybody,
I was searching the web after I found my old Magic CDs and tried to install and play again. I am so glad there is a community still putting effort into this game, especially the new cards for Shandalar, it would be awesome if this becomes real!
Thanks to Snacko, great work - I hope you keep going
I tried out your modified shandalar.exe and it works fine for me so far, I am using the method described here: http://shalandar.com/installation.html. What could I do with the .csv files? Are these supposed to bring the new cards into Shandalar? I would be glad if I could help you guys testing.

Hope you haven't given up on this.
Is there a way the collective can pitch in here?

I've been having issues getting Shandalar to let me purchase cards in town. i'll go to the shop and the only thing it seems to let me do is right or left click to view the expanded card. I've tried clicking on the card prices, but to no avail. Any ideas?

nevermind, I figured it out. apparently the game asks you whether or not you want the card, the dialog box is just missing. just hit y or n when the click on the card

It's such a pity that this project didn't get any updates lately, I was really hoping to see new cards in Shandalar as well
Hope it's not completely abandoned...

Yeah, I hope someone figures it out, too! Before finding Manalink, I used to always play Shandalar over Duel, and the only reason I play Duel now is because I can't bear to go back to just 400 cards :p
