Needless to say, when I read this, I was more than a tad excited. Top it off with seeing Necropotence, my favorite MTG card of all time, available in game and you made my day sir! 8)

I know that this is at a very early stage & that there are a ton of hurdles to clear, but it is none the less great news.

I am in no way a programmer or have any knowledge of same, but if there is a way that I could help, like relieving you of some redundant tasks that you might instruct me on how to do that would free you up to use the time you have to work on this project for other things, please let me know. I'm pretty sure that others here will also volunteer their time when they see this thread.

I wish you the best of luck with this project. It is something I have dreamt about ever since Mok, ( the original programmer who opened up and developed what is now ManaLink) began his project and asked me and few others, some who are members here at CCGHQ, to compose what was to become his Alpha testing team.

No matter what becomes of this, I thank you for giving of your time & skills in modernizing & improving one of the best & most popular MTG games ever made! =D>

They must have been omitted probably by Mok maybe he couldn't make them work so in most versions the videos don't exist.
The videos can be found on MTG 2010 iso.
EDIT:the videos are in Statwin folder.
Korath wrote:There's a MTGEND.avi in my shandalar directory that I assume is supposed to be played at victory; it wasn't. I don't remember ever seeing it, though, so maybe it's always been broken.
If you can see it in an external video then we are in the same page.I don't know if it was/is broken in game as never played it so much and most certainly never finished it.

I have the original discs I can pull the files off of. Give me a few mins and I'll find em

EDIT: i haven't found any AVI files besides the tutorial files. and ive looked at all 3 discs. i think the game used the statwin for shandalar and did animations through there. im going to investigate a bit on that

The deckbuilder is badly out-of-date. I'm not sure why offhand; at a glance, it looks like it calls deckdll.dll like it should.
it does call deckbuilder.dll but i dont know if you ever looked in a disassembled version but it is calling different areas in the dll. there is original code for the deck builder because if you notice it dosent show sets and shows up to 3 decks for the big grey buttons but everything else is there. i believe moks latest update to deckbuilder.dll is still in the source files now.

Here is a link to the "MTGEND.avi" file. I converted it to MP4 because it would not play on either my Mac or Windows machines as both the audio & video did not work at the same time. These are very old files using codecs that aren't used anymore.

http://www.mediafire.com/download/aiib9 ... ND.mp4.zip

This is the video that plays when a player has defeated Arzakon in the last duel. Incidentally, you don't have to beat him to get this animation playing as the number of years that Arzakon is banished from Shandalar is calculated by the amount of lives that you have reduced him from his starting value. Obviously, the more lives you take from him, the more years he is banished.

MTGEnd.avi plays properly on my machine using VLC Media Player. I don't think it works with Windows Media Player due to lack of support for the old Indeo CODEC.

I have the VLC Player as well Huggy, but I did not realize that it was a Windows app as well as I have only ever seen & used it on the Mac platform. Yes you are right, it does work on VLC as I tried it and wanted to use it to convert the video for my Windows challenged friends.

You're also correct in that the files didn't work using the native Windows Media Player either.

I ended up using a nifty app I've been using for many years called Handbrake to convert the file using a universal codec that would play on most device platforms. There is a Mac, Windows & Linux version of this outstanding app.

Thanks for the heads up about the VLC player running on Windows.

----------------------------------------
Edit

I forgot to mention that Handbrake is a free piece of software. Here is the link to the site for the 3 different supported platforms that it runs on.

The sound problem was just me being a dolt; I hadn't had any of the shandalar-specific wavs in the sounds directory, just the locmus files that get distributed with manalink. Putting them in also fixed the corrupted splash screens for the castles, for reasons unknown.

I probably am going to put something together with the duel in shandalar.exe before I start forwarding it to magic.exe (which is what runs Manalink, over in the other forum) after all. I can tackle low-hanging fruit in 5- and 10-minute bursts in between other stuff; interfacing between the two programs, on the other hand, is going to take concerted effort and larger chunks of time.

I mean to at least get all of the new dungeon spells working first before I start handing out executables. They're mostly straightforward; but Mind's Desire is definitely more effort than I want to expend here, and Yawgmoth's Will probably will be, too.

That mtgend.avi file should play just before wingame.wav and wingame.pic. It goes through statwin.dll and magvid.dll, not direct through Windows like the coin-flip animations. Nothing else calls play_video() in statwin.dll directly from shandalar.exe; I'm not sure yet whether the wizard animations are played through statwin.dll indirectly (going through statwin.dll's status_show()), through magvid.dll directly, or something else. I don't have any avi files in my statwin dir, so the whole subsystem might be failing because of that and taking mtgend.avi with it; but if that's not it, I can move it over to the play-through-Windows function like the coin flips if I need be.

While looking into that, I stumbled onto what I'm almost certain is the data controlling which free spells the AI gets in dungeons, the final battle, when you're trying to take back a fallen city, etc. If anyone has concrete suggestions as to what to replace those with - either already existing in Shandalar, in the list above, or other simple cards - please speak up.

[edit - rm four multicolored cards that snuck in]

Here's my StatWin folder from a Shandalar2012 install:
https://www.mediafire.com/?ojz6mk2vg2jb13h

Therein is included all sorts of .avi goodness, and if it's missing anything I'd be surprised, as Hip was very thorough.
